Body Side Door Protectors for parked cars

I think most of us care about the appearance of our G35's and I continuously read about our cars getting door dings while parked. I know there a couple of websites that sell these body side door protectors (held in place with magnets), but I found they are not long enough or wide enough. Has anyone thought about creating their own body side protectors that attach with velcro inside of your wheel wells? I'm not sure what material would work best, but it would have to be waterproof, light but padded material about 24 inches wide that covers the entire length from wheel well to wheel well. It doesn't have to be stylish because you only use them while your car is parked for extended periods of time, like at work.

Has anybody done this or am I the only one that is obsessed with protecting my car doors from dings? What material would you recommend and where can it be purchased?

I've considered making mine. There was a post about six month ago that listed a co. That actually sold these.

It's more than worth an extra 60 second walk to park out in the back.

I use these in my garage. I realized after yelling at the lady in the parking lot at the office - that my daughter and wife were the culprit (not with the G - with my former car; 2001 Maxima SE) - they are now banned from opening the wife's car doors when the G is in the garage.

It's a great idea...but I don't think it would work in real life situations...here in New Jersey anyway...you would have some a-hole who would park next to you and hit the side of your car just to see if it works!!!!!! not to knock it but thanks...I'll continue to just park far far away.... 2old4this

Re: Body Side Door Protectors for parked cars

Blitzjb - Thanks for the link about the magnetic door guards. I had to LOL when I saw the bubble wrap for the car. I'm almost **** enough to do that!!! But seriously, I do park far enough away to protect my doors from aholes, but at work, employee parking is mixed with a constant stream of visitors to our office which results in an unusually high amount of door dings. Several of my co-workers have complained about it. I got lucky and only sustained 5 dings on my BMW and I am determined to do something before I start driving my G to work. It's only being driven on the weekends right now until I sell the BMW.

GR8TG35 - LOL on the Jersey drivers who will open their car door into yours just to test the door guard!

Re: Body Side Door Protectors for parked cars

I took a ball peen hammer to my doors when I got it home so I wouldn't have to worry about wanting to kill the first jacka$$ who opened their door so hard that they have to dent the car next to them.

LOL

Re: Body Side Door Protectors for parked cars

My partners park their Q45's on either side of me to protect my G - Luckily we have reserved spots - althought they are useless when the snow is covering them.

Word. The g/f complains because we have to walk so far to get to wherever we're going.

As long as I'm driving, we're parking far away!
