Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

Let me say this. The guy had mods up the A$$. It was a nice sleeper though. Kept the outside stock except for the wheels and exhaust.

I knew these cars are fast stock but how fast stock? Can our g-coupes either take them or hang with them?

But back to the story i came up to the light and rolled the window down and asked him you wanna run he was kinda scared because he told me that he was under probation. LOL but he said yea sure.

He got me off the line and kept pulling on me thru out the entire time. We went up to 65-70 mph because i was to scared to get a ticket and same with the other guy in the 3000GT. After racing a couple more times i asked the guy if i could check out his car. Funny thing was he wanted to check mine out also.

This guy spent almost 13 grand on his motor alone. It got to the point where he lost track of how much he spent and what he had done to the car. He took me for a drive right after. DAMN felt like my ***** where going back up and coming out my mouth.

I have been in some fast cars like the Porche 911 turbo, but this i think was the fastes car i have been in.

Let me ask you guys something. How fast are the 3000GT VR-4? The stock version

Let me know thanks (sorry for the long story)

stock vr4 i think is something like 310 hp?? i'm not sure... but they're heavy as i ono what.

edit: quarter mile for 1997 vr4 is 13.6 @100mph

weight is like 3800 pounds. i keep finding different weights, between 3700-3900....

HP/tq for a 1999 vr4 is 320/215

Re: Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

It's a 3.0 twin turbo V6. Early models (91-93) make 300hp. Later models (94-99) were bumped to 320hp and could make 0-60 in 5.5.

Not to mention, they're about 300lbs heavier than a G35 Coupe.

It's the car I used to drool over when I first got my license.

Same here! That was my dream car, too bad they don't produce them anymore. I remember the marketing.. "300+ liquid smooth horsepower"..

Re: Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

I was kinda partial to the AWD, 4wheel steering, and the front airdam dropping 3" and rear spoiler tilting 15degrees at what, 50? 55mph? I thought the Dodge Stealth looked better, especially with that interesting moon-shaped wing, but it was missing a few ot the technical goodies, and I just didn't like the black-out headlights.

Yea they are losing value real bad. My buddy has a 96 but not VR-4. He has a real base model one.
As to the one i raced it was a 99. Black on Black. Honestly was one of the first ones i have seen hooked up (Engine wise).

The only ones that don't seem to be loosing their value quite so rapidly are the Spyder versions.

Re: Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

How are you liking those 15g's? Back when I had my 3000GT, I had DR500's but was considering the 15g's or DR650's as an upgrade cuz I got power hungry (wanted to beat Vipers hehe). Even though I dont have that car anymore (RIP), I'm still planning on getting another vr-4 in the future and do a complete buildup. Anyway, nice to run into another fellow 3si'er.

Re: Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

I love the 15G's probably the best turbo for the track and the street, not to much lag compared to the 9b's but a lot more power.
Yeah it is nice to see a few of us 3si members on other sites, I love the G to death but could never part with the vr4 either (my first baby) haha.

Re: Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

Another former 3si'er here! I do miss the pull of the twin turbo's ... especially while I'm still breaking in the G!

She was a beauty but at 121,000 miles I just couldn't risk the expense of fixing her. Car was stock other than air filter and still pulled like new!

Re: Raced a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4

urban... my dad's spare car is a '92 VR4. does your rear spoiler also move when you go above 40 mph or so? i thought that was pretty neat. i also love his sound system.
