can some one help me out??
can some one help me out??
I am trying switch the stock lights which is 4100k. Can anyone give me some suggestion about what brand and hom much K should I get?? I am thinking about 8000k, but my friends told me it will have a short life and always broken. And after you change the lights, the computer system of the car won't run well.I personally really dont have any knowledge about the lights. IF you guys can give me some ideas about the lights and also explain it clearly, it will be really helpful for me to make decision. Picture will be great if possible.

I have no idea what your friends are talking about. Why would the car's computer care what kind of headlights you have? I also never heard of the shortened life with 8000k bulbs, unless you are talking about hi wattage halogens, like PIAA SuperWhites or something.
For the HIDs everyone recommends the Philips Ultinons 6000k bulbs. They are like $249 for a pair. I heard they are much much better than stock, and very white.

"And after you change the lights, the computer system of the car won't run well" ...
The cars "computer" in terms of the engine management / ECU, has no input and or output to the lighting system in the G.
Now your friend is not completely wrong though. Some cars like later model BMW's for one use a seperate computer in the car that is used to determine if a light is blown out, and then warns you via the information center in the dash. In some cases when you swap out lights or upgrade them, the system get confused and see's the increase in power draw or lack of, as a problem and will light up an error message. Now this once again would have nothing to do with the way your car runs, but it may be what he meant or misunderstood....
Other than that, you wont have any problems with such a mod in a G in terms of how your car runs with a new set of head lights...

LOL... Jeff, by trade, I'm not a mechanic or anything like that, but growing up with a gear head of a father, whom was and still is quite active in SCCA events, it wasn't any shocker that I got into motorsports at such a young age.
At the ripe age of 5, I got my first bike. It was a Yamaha PW50, and from there my lust for everything with an engine grew. I raced karts for team Energizer (the battery company) and for Kent (european candy company) for about three years when I was 14. I worked for Ducati motors in Italy for about a year and a half after college in the R&D dept. That job lead me to become a wheel man for the Italian embassy in NY for a while (tactical driving stuff), and for kicks I got my ASE certs in just about everything offered except for diesel and bus repair, from Wyoming Tech in Laramie, WY which was about a year program.
So through the years of working on bikes, cars, trucks, and just about everything with an engine, you kind of start to pick up on things and you learn from it all, and that learning process never ends!

Ducatiguy - what is your opinion of Wyoming Tech? I've always wanted to go spend a year or so up there and learn about cars. Any thoughts?

This is not a power issue at all, yo. If he replaces the stock 4100K D2R bulb with an aftermarket 8000K D2R bulb, it won't make a difference because the bulb will still be drawing 35W. 8000K bulb will be a really sick blue color, but you will lose lighting. 4300K stock Philips D2R bulb outputs 3,200 lumens, average 8000K D2R bulb outputs 2,600 lumens or even less (depending on quality of the bulb). Check out Bohmen D2R Xenon bulbs from proxenon.com...8000K color temperature outputting 2,600 lumens...you don't sacrifice that much output for the color. =)
