If you have to pinch your pennies that much it might be better to sell it and buy an econo-box.
+1

They make a nice sport Suzuki for you cheap guys , I think you can get it equipped with a sunroof, 17in wheels and a 5 speed for like 14K... LOL

That is why I asked him to post the figures. I don't know how he got that much.

Irregardless that is a lot of driving. Must be travelling daily with his job. In that case it could be wrote off on expenses .

Damn, crazy a** G35s are like gold diggers! However, you don't always buy the best things for your gold digger do you, and she still performs fine.

Therefore, with lower octane fuel, the discharge occurs sooner causing misfires and knocking. I'm sure the control units in our cars are smart enough to compensate a little, but long term effects may not be good.

The reason why high octane gas is useless for say a 4 cyl Camry is because the engine never performs to that high level. It'll never hit the high heat situation to get the performance. This means that not all of the fuel is usually discharged. You have those extra octanes just being gassed out of your exhaust. Does it hurt, maybe. But probably not as much as using lower grade fuel for a higher performing car like the G. You're just polluting more I guess.

I also wondered about the entire debate about the same VQ engine being used for other cars like the Altima. They're 87 fuel friendly. And again, this has a lot to do with the tuning of the engine itself. I'm sure the timing and heat thresholds are adjusted accordingly to prevent misfires and knocking. Maybe the ECU could be re-written in the G to compensate for this. But it would be an unfortunate downgrade.
Thats allot of thought for such an easy decision; get the wallet out and pay the extra $ for the premium... What the heck is few cents is going to change when the gas is already nearing $4 a gallon?
We either pay, or park, but I for one, will not run anything under 91 octane in my G and I'm not parking it!

i thought they require premium (aka 91 octane) rather than 92+, these aren't even sold where I live, and if your premium is 93 then your cheapo gas should be 91 correct? so I think it depends on where you live, whether it requires premium or regular.

If you cant afford the extra .21 cents per gallon. You shouldn't be driving a G.. Or even a car for that matter.

How do you think some of the people on here get to own a G? By penny pinching.

I'm not sure of the amount of difference in the octanes, but the owner's manual calls for premium so that's what mine gets.

Yeah, you're right..my "savings" was a bit aggressive. So, here's the breakdown...In Jersey anyway..as of last night at Exxon:
87: $3.39
89: $3.59
92: $3.79

So, $ .40 Cent Difference.
20 gallons a fill correct? so thats 8 bucks.

Not worth it for me X 3 X's a week = $24 bucks a week, or $96 a month or $1152 a year. Starting to add up right?
But "F" it not really wanting to cause detonation and retard the timing and F up my air to fuel ratio's etc. AND worst of all..loose HP.. Hells bells

And yeah..I drive my DiC$ off..Im a sales director and have to meet my reps out etc.

In Georgia we have 87, 89 & 93. 93 usually costs 20 to 25 cents more per gallon than 87.

I have used 93 since I bought the G35 but in my old Solara I did a few comparisons. Generally the MPG difference between premium & regular was enough to cover the difference is price.

OK...where I live for regular unleaded it is $3.55 per gal, and premium is $3.75. When I fill up with 15 gallons it will run me $56.25 for premium and $53.25 for regular. That's only a difference of $3.00. I fill up about 3 times a month...that's a savings of $9.00...multiply that by 12 months and that saves me $108 per year.

Hmm,

-saving $3.00 at each fill-up
-savings of $9.00 per month
-savings of $108.00 per year

-driving an awesome car with the right ingredients...PRICELESS!

Premium gas FTW!!! You're G35 will thank you for it

If you take into account that with 87 you will get at least 1mpg less than with 91 (or 93), then you either break even or lose money over the course of a year. If it's 1.5mpg difference, not only do you lose money, you might also be harming your car.
