transmission is gone

Well, got the bad news today.. nothing is definite because I have to take my car back in tomorrow but, whenever I shift down to third gear it is grinding no matter how much I push the clutch. Immediately the service manager said they are probably going to have to replace the transmission. Heres the BS though, my car has 22k miles on it, I bought it with 17k (Yes...i know) he is trying to say infiniti may not honor the warranty because he thinks the previous owner may have done excessive damage to the car. Now I've had my car since december and I alone have put 5k miles on it, some people just have long commutes. Anyway, any suggestions? Reguardless, I refuse to come out of my pocket for another transmission

Like you said, that's BS man. Tell them to bill Infiniti like all the other claims for trannies have been. .

If they won't do it, I'm sure another dealership will. Don't let 'em touch it unless they commit to a warranty claim.

Re: transmission is gone

It dosent matter who owned the car, the warranty implied is 5/60 on the power train. Ask for it in writing where it shows where they cant honor the warranty because the previous owner may have damaged the car.

Re: transmission is gone

You see, thats the beauty of warranties, even if you mess up
unless it can clearly be proved that you were negligent, you are covered. Then the dealers sometimes try to do coverup.
So bottom line, you are covered.

Re: transmission is gone

Yeah, most warranties are "transferrable"
When a warranty paper says "NON-TRANSFERRABLE" that means that if you sell the car, the warranty is void... just like in all Kia's and Hyundai's (basically all of the 100,000 mile warranty companies have non-transferrable warranties except suzuki i think- dont quote me on this though)

Infiniti's warranties are transferrable and should be honored.

Re: transmission is gone

Tell them to go to hell...

grinding transmission has been replaced with new one left and right. If you don't have other dealers around you, just call the infiniti consumer and tell them about your situation.
