5at ----> 6mt

Not knowing what kind of background you come from, but this is not a backyard project...at all. I doubt 1/30 of the people on here could do this themselfs. I know that i could not do this in my garage by myself, my dad is an engineer and we do have a 30,000 sq ft machine shop. Its not that hard to pull the tranny and put a new one in, but it is a different story when you have to resize the drive shaft and have it machined and balanced. The new or reflashed ECU, custom fabricated parts, down time, materials, tools and everything else that is required.
Hero, you are right that not everyone is going to charge 3700 for labor, but not that many people are going to do it for cheaper and have an idea of what they are doing and they most likely are not going to properly finish the job. If you look at the parts used by GTM it would cost 4500-5000.
Here are some of the things you need to take into consideration while doing this project.
new engine control harness
clutch ignition switch
ECU location replacement (fabrication)
driveshaft (machined and balanced)
Cluth upgrade (good idea)
custom fabricated parts (clutch mounts, cutting of body parts to fit the 6 spd)
new center arm consul)
Relocation of the ebrake
New 6 spd transmission (not used)
Knowing the electrical of the car inside and out (drive by wire system, ecu tuning, timing, ect)
Instrument cluster has to be tampered with
Just my .02 though. If you do this by yourself...goo luck!

^^Thanks sean. yea after I read that link before I 2nd thought about it. I was just going to try to build a G for the fun of it. Although i still hope I do, I just found the perfect 5AT to do it too. (friends dad got in a minor crash and wanted to sell it). It just needed a new back bumper and left tailight and quarter panel. But he was going to sell it for $14,000. Not bad for an 04 with 34,000 miles. But I think he has it for $19,000 to the public. But ohh well. I personally would like a 6MT, its a sports car, no autos in my book. Thanks for all your help guys. Also I feel like an idiot asking this but what is FI? I tried to search FI and nothing came up(on google and here). I am new to the board so i think you have to post 5 threads or something before you get PM's. I dont know. Maybe I'm wrong.

I was also thinking on just finding a cheap manuel and build it. Whats your thoughts? Do you know of anywhere you can get them cheap? I guess a salvage wont hurt as long as there is no frame damage and I get a carfax report. I am looking to get it for less than $10,000 if I can. Or do you know of anyone who is willing to part out. For example I buy the car but they keep the brakes/wheels/tires/center consol/etc. That would be fun. Has anyone built one like this?
Thanks!
Thanks!
