Water inside OEM spoiler?!?

When I open my trunk I can hear water sloshing around inside my spoiler. It runs/dribbles out of the spot where the spoiler joins the trunk when the trunk is up.

(It's possible it is actually inside the trunk lid itself, but it sounds like it's in the spoiler.)

Anyone heard of this problem before? Any suggestions (apart from taking it to the dealer)?

Thanks!

Definitely yes, it happened to me too. I made an appointment to have it checked but by the time I brought it in, the water had emptied. I recently tried to bring in again but this time it was frozen.... bad luck.

I wonder how the heck it got in there? I mean, there are no openings on the top of the spoiler.

the spoiler is attached with 3m tape a few bolts, the tape seal is what keeps the water out. it is possible the install was not as thorough as it should have been, there is definitely room for error when it comes to this type of thing. it may have been a dealer add-on, in which case the quality of work can be hit or miss

Thanks Patman...

I just noticed my car has the 3rd brakelight on the back speaker platform. IIRC, this means the spoiler was a dealer add-on.

Anyway, I'd like to take it off and re-attach it myself to fix the leak problem. Anyone ever do this? Is it difficult to get a good seal afterwards? Thanks!

Hmm, never had this happen to me yet. If I had this happen though I would just take my trusty dremel with a diamond tipped bit and drill 3 real small holes, one on each side underneath and one near the center somewhere to drain the water from below.

^^ that is definitely a good option, it's a PITA to take off the OEM spoiler off, it took me and a friend 2hrs to take my 06 spoiler off.

So it's really a PITA to remove the spoiler? Is it just the 3M tape that's hard to deal with? If so, I may just leave it as is. Even if I removed it it, I wonder if I could reattach it with a tighter seal.

It still seems strange to me that water could have dripped down into the spoiler considering there are no holes on the top of it...Maybe the water is actually in the lid of the trunk.

I think even with the factory spoiler, there is still the 3rd brake light in the rear window. I wonder if the water is getting in around the LED, I don't see how, but maybe. So far, the only water I've had is around the mounts. I use a cordless blower after washing the car to get the water out of the nooks and crannies, works well! There is a small hole on the underside of the spoiler, almost looks like a weep hole of some sort. I have an OEM, not factory.

My 04 Coupe doesn't have a brake light in the back window and it has a spoiler.

6MT Coupe
Same with my 06 coupe.
If they do have light in back window, it's a dead give-away spoiler was added on after factory build.
