I don't think the dealer would let you test drive it to a mechanic, best bet would take one with you when you go.

You say you have family members that are mechanics. Take one of them along to test drive and inspect it....

yeah..true..didnt think of that..but why wouldnt the dealer let me take it to a mechanic? would they rather throw away a sale over not letting someone have a mechanic check it out?

Couldn't hurt to ask dealer to speak with previous owner ...... over the years ai've had dealers more than accomodative when I've asked.
Also, have you seen a carfax to ensure no collision damage?
As far as taking to your own mechanic I'd view dealer suspiciously if they said NO! Finally a biggie, how about oil changes? Any service records? How's the dipstick look ? Beware of sludge.GLTY

also go to your infiniti dealer and have them run the vin... they'll pull up the records and give you a print out

yea i took my car to a mechanic especially since they were so eager to sell me the car.. they even wanted me to drive it home and "sleep on it" then come and sign the papers or return the car the next day.. so i took it to my mechanic (uncle) and he gave it a thorough inspection and i looked up all the info on it.. so i asked the dealer who sold it to me (now a good friend) and he told me the car had been sittin inthe lot for 114 days so they wanted to sell it.. since it was MT and tinted so most of the people around this area want "luxury" and that was too "young" so the second i showed i snatched it.

Don't worry every car has a report.Get a vehicle history report, it will list everything that's happened to it.

is it free?? And this is what the deal is...

Cars in Cali tend to cost a lot more than cars in Florida.

I am in the Marines.
I live in Florida (place of residence before i joined)
i am stationed in Cali
As soon as i get back from iraq (current residence for the next 7 days), i am going home on leave (Florida) and purchasing my car there. I will be there for 2 weeks, and will be driving my car back to cali with a few of my friends that have there cars back in florida.
How can i return the car to the dealer to have them fix it if i am on the other side of the United States? i cant...therefor i am trying to get a reliable car, that is not going to break down on me..

warranty from infiniti applies to all dealers.. if i'm not mistaken.. i bought my car in Alexandria Passport infiniti but i take it to tysons Infiniti.. it's warranty from Infitinti not the place u buy it from. at least thats what i was told.
and car fax reports cost money i think.. some peopel just get the vin and ask people that have a car fax.. i got mine from the dealer.. ask them to see it!!! it is a must .. no one buys a car without knowing the history..
