First off, ive searched and cant figure out how to post pics, so for now i will try to describe the prob. (acutally i might have figured out the pic thing, lets see....) On the inside of my driver door near the hinge there is this white elastic string hanging out. It looks like it might have been attached to something on the other side, but i have no idea. It is about 6 inches long and i can pull it out of the door but dont know if i should leave it, or if it is useless and just cut it.

I saw the same thing when I was detailing my car. I was afraid to pull it so I left it alone. I figure I will ask the dealer during my first oil change in 1k more miles.
BTW, I have a sedan.

i say cut it... i have had my door panels completely off the car. I dont recall any elastic straps.... If so they werent important. My cars is just fine.

The elastic string is wrapped around some of the clips that hold the plastic door panel to the door itself. I think they do that to try and cut down on the rattles between the clips and door. There's no harm in cutting it off if you're not hearing any rattles in that area.

 

the elastic string is what holds a plastic film on the door when it comes new from the factory so the door won't get dirty. since the film has been removed, there is no use for the string so just cut it off. you could actually pull the string out too if you could grip it.

I saw those strings hanging out of my driver side door soon after getting the car. People on the board said to just cut it. I had the dealership look at it while I was at the dealership for something else and they just cut it. No problems.
