How did you get used to the visibility?

Most of the time I do a goofy half body turn so I can see properly.
I think the guys that are taller might have an advantage on this.
edit: I think I remember when I took my driver test, they checked to see if you turned you head to look. I remember a girlfriend of mine couldn't because of her gas perm contacts and she got dinged.
I agree, you should be looking as well as checking the mirrors.

If you start to move at the same time as someone else to your right, they will be watching as they move as well - it should not be a problem.

if you're having troubles with the blindspot, just lean a little bit forward when you're unsure of who's around you.
I don't bother shoulder checking, but sometimes it happens. Like I shoulder check without even thinking about it.. I usually adjust my mirrors. When I make a lane change I check the rearview, then I look into the side view mirrors while leaning forward- This eliminates the blind spot.
Or instead of leaning forward, you can angle the mirrors out further so you don't see the side of your car.
A simple way to do this is to lean your head close to the window and adjust the left mirror until you can see the side of your car. Then lean your head to the right about a similar distance as the window and adjust the right mirror.
A cop told me this trick after I ran someone off the road when I was still a new driver. Of course, I always turn my head now too.

i constantly check my mirrors as i drive and i keep enough distance between myself and teh car infront of me. When i need to change lanes i check my mirrors, lean foward and look, and then speed up a bit then move over. All while having my blinker on so they know what im planning.
G35 & Blind Spots....!
You can adjust the mirrors all you want but when you make lane changes
it never hurts to glance over just to make sure you're not missing someone!
I'd rather be safe than "Crushed."

And yes, I ride.

With the mirrors adjusted this way, have a friend walk around the car with a flashlight pointed forward. You'll notice that your friend will appear in at least 1 mirror at all times, if you can't already see him next to you.
Keep in mind your friend is smaller than a motorcycle would be.
Other reason is I have a massive blind spot in one of my cars... I couldn't see anything even if I turned around =P

Everyone is different from height to weight to how smart they are or aren't. I don't think there is one way to set up mirrors, lol. The easiest thing to do is pay attn to the road and your surroundings and use the mirrors as added support in assisting you in a safe drive. You stating and actually believing that ppl should be driving and only viewing behind them through mirrors helps me understand why there are so many accidents. Not knocking you personally I just don't agree with your opinion.
