My G is out of warranty and it cost more than $100 to replace each so I cut them off... Only I know (and now you guys), you cannot tell the short piece is missing unless you know what your looking for. I did try different adhesives first but none lasted very long. I intended to eventually replace them but after all this time I decided not to, it's no big deal.

I don't get it, why would the color of the car matter?

I wondered that myself and found the answer to be additives they use to have the paint become more flexible are different for darker colors... The trim piece is actually painted; some of the additives are absorbed and they just did not get the mixture right which caused the trim to become brittle and tear after being in the elements for awhile.

If you ask me they should replace all for free even if out of warranty, but that will never happen.

If you discuss this with a painter or paint mixer they will tell you that different colors and\or shades use different primers and additives to get the proper results... I can't give you a more detailed explanation, but the color does matter.
