Help Choosing!

Hey everyone,

I'm very close to purchasing a 2005 G35 Coupe...and just needed some advice.

I found a private seller willing to sell their 2005 G35 Coupe for $20K flat. It has about 46K miles, the performance tire/wheel package, and is in auto.

I found a luxury auto wholesale dealer selling a 2005 G35 Coupe for $23K. It has about 30K miles, the sports package, and is in auto.

Which do you guys think would be best?

Thanks!

05+ have the revup engine that gives u more HP but less torque, but the downfall is that u'll get high oil consumption which = blown engine.(this applies to manual only i believe) interior is way nicer though but wat good will that do when your car wont start.

and for god sakes, its a nice luxury sports car! dont get an auto!!! i used to drive an auto but after i learned stick, im never going back... seriously u'll regret it... its like buying a sports car with out the sports... (this is totally IMHO)

oh btw, i learned to drive a stick in my 03 G35 with 60k miles on it. clutch is still wonderful.

if u can, try to get the newer G's it has that HQ engine....more rpms and more power. i dono if theres any issues with those.

Less miles is nice of course, but your net difference in cost, discounting financing is probably ~4800 more with the dealer if tax is 8% or so. Sport tuned suspension package gets you the nice wheels and stiffer suspension as well as aluminum pedals. You'll have ~1 year on your full warranty in either case it appears.

I've driven a manual for the past 6 years...and now finally want to go back to an auto. A part of me definitely wants to get the manual to get the most out of the car, but I think the convenience of an auto is very enticing.

Callaway and VCG35, how come u guys recommend the dealer? One thing I forgot to mention is that I believe the dealer's car was a prior lease. The low miles and sports suspension is what is making this hard.

My plan is to put about $5,000 down...and with the private seller, I think I can give him the cash and set the sales price as $14,500 with my credit union, while if I were to go with the dealer, the sales price would have to be what they state I assume. So I think I can save money on taxes by goin with the seller. Plus I think that the seller is offering it about $1,800 below KBB while the dealer is just $500.

But like I said...the low miles and sports suspension is whats gettin me. Are the low miles and sports suspension worth the extra cost in taxes and getting less of a discount (in terms of KBB)? More opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so far everyone.

The reason why I say go with the dealer is because it's dealer maintained, which I think would be in better condition where as in the private owner you don't really know how the service history has been on it.I'm just really cautious when It comes to buying used cars from private owners.

I'd still go with the dealer car because it has lower miles, even though it's more than the private owner.

ask the private sales many questions.

with the private sale just add about 2k to loan and get the extended warranty from the dealer.

but then you got to pay fees to dmv. not sure what they will tax you on

Thanks for the advice so far everyone!

The private seller is actually a friend, so the maintenance history i'm not worried about. He took the car into the dealership for all the maintenance, and said he would give me a copy of all the papers if I chose to buy the car.

I guess I'm just wondering if the low miles and sports suspension...is worth the extra money (maintenance issues aside).
