G35 Coupe Brakes?
G35 Coupe Brakes?
My coupe has incredibly touchy brakes. Is this normal?
i.e. On the freeway, I just want to slow down a tad as I come up to a slower moving vehicle. With most cars, I was able to touch the brake and slow the car.
With my G35, even the slightest touch seems to produce more braking than I want. (Regular brakes, not Brenbo.)
What are others' experiences with their coupes?

Does anyone's brakes smell like burned rubber after they shut off the engine after driving for a while??? I have the Brembo brakes and dont usually press on the brakes too hard when i slow down....very weird!!

ace and Peter: Are you both in brand-new Coupes? New cars take about 1,000 miles for the brakes to break-in. Yes, the rotors/pads DO need to break-in with the engine! If you're both in new Coupes, then just let the car break-in...the pedal feel will become more progressive and easier to control.
If you're both past the break-in period...better get used to it !! The G35C (Brembo or Non-Brembo) has some kickass brakes !!!

Yes the brakes are very responsive - but you will get used to it - then you will like them!! They kind of go along with the instant response of the engine & steering!
The biggest problem I find is that when I drive our other car, I really have to be careful to brake alot sooner.

Re: G35 Coupe Brakes?
maybe its the older brake pads that caused sick break dust. those thing were great for stoppage the new ones are OK but cant compare them to the ones you get for free with the warrantee

Re: G35 Coupe Brakes?
The soft(er than normal) pad material has a lot to do with the touchy feel and excessive brake dust. Aftermarket brake pads with a harder compound (like a metal matrix pad or even a full out high temp race pad) will change the brake feel quite a bit, but they do have their drawback as well....

Something a bunch of folks forget is that if you never touched your brakes on this car, you could still end up with the lovely smell of fried discs and pads. How? Hit a couple off ramps and attack nice and hard, or accelerate like you stole it. VDC is going to throw some braking at you whether you like it or not, heavy if you're really smacking some corners. I came to a stop after a "spirited" drive last fall (up and back something akin to the 1 in Cali, except thru the woods of Southern Ontario. Sweaty palms, realized that I'll not be pushing like that again on public roads (the ticket would have had me walking to work for the rest of my life once I finished up my prison time and community service, and presupposing that I wasn't fired for mental illness or something like that). Well the brakes were squeaking, sizzling, and smelling like heat. Interesting thing- I was hardly braking. But I know the safety nanny was babysitting me constantly (which gives spodes like most of us just too darn much confidence- grins all around
) ).
If you're slipping a bunch in inclement weather, expect the same result. Coming home yesterday we had crap (technical term for every type of precipitation, all at once!) here in SE Ontario, and that familiar scent was ever present when I rolled into the garage last night after coming home from the Pontiac Supercross.
Cheers,
