vibration on the shift lever

today i test drove the g35coupe and it's a pretty nice car. I think the handling is really good but it does feel kinda heavy. but the thing that bothers me is how much the 6mt shift lever vibrates. i've never driven a manual transmission car with that kind of vibraion on the shift lever. is that supposed to be normal? I sit at the light and i see the shift **** vibrate. When you touch it, it buzzes your hand pretty good..

Re: vibration on the shift lever

I am not sure but this is my first nissan/infiniti and from driving my fathers exterra, and a couple friends nissans I have decided this is normal as these cars/suv both have pretty active sticks. I agree when I fist got into the car i was a little suprised. Perhaps the car you took for a drive had a little more active shifter than most. In my car, you can't see it vibrating in any gear, except when its not in gear. When not in gear ther is a slight visble vibration. I like to think that its solidly connected to the beast under the hood.

Funny, that's what my girlfriend said about me after I started taking these vitamins...

Well at least it means that I must still be alive... and I'd say it's the same thing with the G's stick -- it just means what Enzo Ferrari once said: da car... she's alive!!

But seriously, yeah, I noticed that too about the shifter in my G when I first drove it. Doesn't bother me though. It's only at the lights when I'm in neutral.

Don't forget that the other end of the stick is a linkage that's bolted directly onto the transmission which is bolted to the engine block, so if the stick vibrates a little it just tells me that there's no looseness there that is dampening or absorbing any vibrations.

Re: vibration on the shift lever

i know how you feel. when i first drove my car out of the lot, i found it very awkward driving it with the shifter vibrating so much. you get used to it later on. i only had a little experience driving stick in acuras. from what i recall, those don't shake at all.

7500 rpm torque-less sewing machines vs 4000rpm 3.5 litre VQ engines. I hope you will become a convert. Initial impressions make the G seem a little heavy etc, but it grows on you and once you have owned it a few months and explored the dynamics a bit you'll appreciate it.
