Exclamation Having a problem, need help

Ok so I drive a 2004 automatic coupe with only 40k miles on it.

Long story short.. one night my car had some sort of malfunction, the check A/T light came on and it felt like the transmission was shot. However, the next day it was drivable, but now I'm dealing with some strange symptoms.

When going at normal speed the car goes through 1-4th gear without getting over 3k rpm. Second and third gear are basically non-existant. In fact it has switched from first through third without the hand on the tacometer even moving. Also, There is sometimes a loud "burrrrrr" like sound when coasting. And it just seems as though I have less power when flooring it from a roll but this is probably because I am in 4th at 25 mph.

Ive taken it to the dealership and they say they cant find anything wrong with it. I know something is wrong, it feels nothing like it did before that night when the check AT light came on.

I have heard something about it possibly being the ECU or something, but at this point I am clueless. I am pretty frustrated so if anyone has any kind of suggestions or has had similar experiences it would be great if you could share your knowledge..
thanks

After reading about limp mode it sounds like that could be it. How do I go about fixing this?
Reset the ECU?

The dealer should have identified if it was in limp mode, I would go back. Ask if any codes are stored. Maybe try another dealer. I would also get a transmission fluid flush.

I reset the ECU and that seemed to help it alot. Second gear is still short sometimes, but overall it is much better. Thanks for the tips

when you floor the gas, it shifts at 3 grand? if you're talking about normal driving condition 3k rpm seems right for shifting out of 2nd

before reseting the ECU it switched through 4 gears between 2k and 3k rpm regardless of how hard i was flooring it. I think it is fixed now though, I'm glad it wasnt something more serious
