Yes, the increases are definitely hitting us all. Our premium gas is now $5.30/US gallon.
I've started to change my habits due to increases in living costs (gas included). The biggest change is that I'm focusing on smooth acceleration to the speed limit instead of exploding away at every light. I also try to plan combined trips to minimize wastes where ever I can.
I'm by no means broke due to the increased costs, but I can definitely benefit from reducing waste.

I don't drive very much (<10,000/year) and will drive even less for the next 4 years (probably less than 5,000/yr). The price of gas would have to be absolutely outrageous to affect my driving habits.
Driving my G is one of the most fun parts of my day - if I had to physically take a dollar out of my wallet every time I wanted to merge WOT onto the highway (as opposed to easing onto the highway), I'd happily fork it over every time.

I don't know where you got 290k for a US home. but here in the CITY, its well over 500k... for a 3bed 2 bath...
Nope... i drive 60 miles a day mon-fri... costs $75 a week to fill up, and thats just for going to school..... Im considering buying a smart car or a motorcycle for the commute to school... hmm

Also, don't forget that interest on a home mortgage is tax deductible in the US. And although prices for cars are closer between Canada and the US, it's still cheaper to buy a car in the US. The Canadian market has been flooded with cars from the US.
