Engine break in?

Re: Engine break in?
Review your owner's manual, but basically it's like this:
The break-in period is 1,200 miles, don't go over 4,000rpm and make sure to vary your rpm's (so no cruise control, either).
Your tires and brakes need to brake in also (1,000 miles)...basically try to avoid taking turns very fast and slamming on the brakes.
Don't worry, it's not hard at all...you don't need to baby the car, just don't abuse it for the first 1,200 miles. Once you're done with break-in, drive it as you like.

Not gonna hurt you at all Ximer, I actually believe in getting up on it a couple of times during break in to stretch her legs a bit. Just do not abuse it to much b4 1200 miles, then after 1200 miles drive it like you stole it. This car was meant to be drivin hard not grandma'ad. You have one of the best production engines out there today, enjoy it!

Re: Engine break in?
The TRUTH is that nobody really knows.
There is a huge lack of data on this subject. The only real data I have seen is here. The summary of that site is that breaking it in hard is better for long-term engine performance and lifetime.
My older brother is an engine rebuild mechanic, and between him and his two mechanic shop-mates, they can (and sometimes do) argue all day long on how modern engines should be broken in, if at all. With 75 years of experience between them, one says hard break-in, one says soft, one says it doesn't matter at all.
