Help:1 Week Old and Broken into!

So Pissed off.

Got my new 2004 6mt -DG/Graphite-Premium-Splash 1 week ago today. Like all of you I already am in love with my car, which makes the following story so sad-

Just left dinner with friends at a nice restuarant in a nice town. Came out to help my wife into the passenger seat to find the window down, glove box open, floor mats flipped over and fuse box cover off.

My mind froze, it felf like time stood still, I knew something was wrong but could't process it. Obviously, I realized someone tried to steal-break into my car. I then walk around to the driver side to see the lock busted out and a 2 inch diameter hole punched into the door above the lock.

The cops said this is done because there is a default that lowers the window if the door is punched correctly. The cops were also surprised the car was still there, their guess was the would be theif were looking for a valet key, didnt find it and took off.

I would love to get my hands on the little bastards that did this!

My question:

It seems I will only need a new driver side door. Who do I go to for this? Will it come with factory paint if I go through the dealer? The car is a week old so I want to make sure the new door looks perfect and matches the rest of the car.

Any advice or insight is appreciated...I am so mad I don't know what to do with myself right now.

Thanks for listening.

That sucks big time! Sorry to hear about that.

I'm not sure if the door comes pre-painted. I know the plastic piece that goes above the window comes pre-painted so it's possible. Good luck and I hope that guys mother gets cancer of the eyes.

You can go to any reputable body shop to get it done. I'm going to assume you only need the shell, and not an entire interior of the door as well. The Sedan door shell runs $533, so that should give you a ball-park figure of what it'll cost your insurance (I assume you'll claim it). Call your insurance co. and ask them who is a preferred shop. The shell comes unpainted, and your body shop will paint it to match. If you choose a good shop, you'll never even notice a difference.

Sorry to hear about that, man. That really stinks- good luck with the repairs, and I hope this helps you a little,

Bad news & I'm sorry mate. Check out a good body shop, as Geo said you'll probably only need the shell (exterior) part of the door...good luck.

Yeah I work for a body shop and what they'll have to do is replace the door skin. They'll also have to blend the paint into the fender and quarter panel if you want the color to match perfect. Just so you know you'll probably be looking at around $1000-$1500.

Sorry to hear the G was damaged, but at least the car was not stolen.......

Any good bodyshop will be able to do the repair...and matching the paint should not be to hard if they blend in the areas repaired.......

I would suggest you look into another type of alarm system. Maybe something with an adjustable sensitivity to motion.....
this way any movement of your car will trigger the alarm

My only wish is the people responsible for this when making their retreat were run over by an 18 wheeler......

Best of luck........

Re: Help:1 Week Old and Broken into!

I appreciate everyone's response. I woke up this morning still pissed off, but at least I still have the car.

Once I find a reputable body shop, how long would you imagine I will be without the car?

Thanks again.

Our shop usually takes about 3-5 days to do the job once your parts come in.

My door shell took 2 days to arrive, and 3 days of prep, paint, and install.

Re: Help:1 Week Old and Broken into!

I have seen a few different stories concerning break-ins, with this being the method of choice for theives. Are there certain alarm systems that are better at defending this particular type of attack? Would it be better to remove whatever wires or route the wires that are being targeted by this method?

I guess there are 2 types of defenses I am trying to get a hold of.

1) Guards against the vandelism
2) Guards against the car being stolen after the vandelism has taken place.

Re: Help:1 Week Old and Broken into!

As always I knew I would find good support on the site.

Does anyone know a great body shop in Northern New Jersey. In the vicinity of Short Hills would be great.

Thanks

Mine was broken into the same way. Cost around $1100-1300 to fix. Im in North Jersey too. Fixed perfectly at Parkway Autobody in Lyndhurst, NJ. I went through my insurance with a $500 deductible.
