G2 kit doesn't require removing the caliper since it's something that you brush on. Masking rubber parts is optional and you just need to keep your eyes pealed to make sure you're not dripping onto the rotors. Duplicolor also makes a spray on kit which a lot of folks just end up spraying into a dish and then brushing on. Otherwise you would want to remove the calipers for spraying.Originally Posted by thechronic
did you have to remove the whole caliper to do that?

Got any pics of the prep and painting process?
Sorry, non taken. I used a 4" wire brush from Home Depot along with a small 1" brush to hit the tight areas. Followed that with a healthy spray of brake parts cleaner with a oil drain pan underneath to catch excess. After that, the painting and decal application is self-explanatory.Originally Posted by Meatshackle

. sounds like a good summer project. how much did you spend on paint as well?
It is a great summer project. This is something that I like to start at 5-6PM on a Friday night. If you go at a snails pace (typical for me with car projects), you'll be done by 10PM and the car would be drivable late Saturday night or early Sunday morning (24hr drying time).Originally Posted by elayman
how hard is this to do? i'd love to cover up the ugly caliper color

I've purchased all 3 of my G2 kits on eBay for about $40:

Here's an additional large picture to get a view of the entire car:

A much easier and more convincing way to imitate (no one should buy these unless you're trying to be funny with a Geo Metro):Originally Posted by koksik86
i wouldn't imitate a BBK by trying to make the stock brakes look similar. i'd probably just buy the bbk if i wanted a nice set of brakes. not my cup of tea, sorry. A for effort though...

Definitely not what I'm going for when dressing up factory calipers. $2k Wilwood or Stoptech's would be phenomenal if I was auto-xing, but I never come close to peaking out the abilities of the stock system.

so let me get this straight, you just bought a brush from home depot and painted the silver paint straight onto your calipers that were still on the car? im assuming you had to tape it up a little bit?

The wire brush from Depot was was for prep work; cleaning the calipers. The G2 kit includes a very small paint brush which works very well for applying the paint. No masking is needed (I never have) although it certainly wouldn't hurt.
Brake caliper decals are typically made with high quality heat resistant vinyl. Those Nismo "stickers" (the seller did refer to them as being stickers
) on eBay may die a quick death on a caliper.

but the brakes look awesome, great job
