ordinary batteries have a green (ok)/red (not ok!) eye on top; or you can have it checked by the dealer, or anyone selling batteries; get a tester; depends on how old the battery is; if its taking longer to start your engine; if it's easily drained.... etc. what else guys?? but in case that day comes, when you cant start your engine... it may not just be the battery, it can be your alternator, starter, or anything...

Any good auto shop can do a load test on your battery to give an accurate indication of it's true condition.
Other than that, starting characteristics and age are good clues.
Don't forget about the electrolite level in each cell.
As LaserG says, tho, other components can come into play like the alternator, starter, and grounding.

I just moved my G from Maryland to NJ this past weekend. It sat idle for six months and the battery was dead. Roadside assistance said the NAV will drain the battery.
