Ok- I know this is close to being a dead horse but....It is the first time I have seen it inside and out.

I just recieved the new Road and Track with the review of the RX8 in it and wanted to see if I was the only one that can't figure out if Mazda hasn't done too much zoom-zoom (whatever the hell that is) in designing that car? I'm sure it's a nice car and all but I don't know how you can go up against the G35 Coupe as your comparison vehicle. They don't even seem to be in the same league.

The RX8 is about the same in performance, but doesn't have the luxury feel or look of the G35's. Plus it is BUTT UGLY! What is up with that dash? Zoom Zoom to the brain I think. All I know is the projected 258 miles to a tank of gas is kinda sad.

The G is just in a class above-

You have to hate them and love them at the same time. In my opinion they deserve credit because they are changing their design philosephy. Anything is better than what it was even if it is that Nasty looking RX8. The second thing, (the hate) is the fact that they are building a lower quality product. This is why the vehicle is $5000 cheaper than well equiped 6MT. I agree that it's apples to oranges but I think like I've heard some other say that C&D is using the G as a bench mark. In the performance only ring what C&D said is true the Rx8 is faster but many people including my self are gonna look at the whole picture, fit, finish, reliability, service, performance there are many things that set the G far above in my opinion. I think the RX8 works well as a competitor to the 350Z or a Mustang GT or some other sports-only coupe. I like some of the technological concepts they're bringing out.. the rear half-doors like the Saturn coupes, bringing back the rotory engine, etc.

But you're right, even if it blows the doors off a G35, it's not going to affect the heart of a G35 driver. There's crossing the finish line, and then there's crossing the finish line in style.

ok this is my conclusion on why they used the G35coupe instead of the 350z. Besides them all being 4 seats, they had to use the G35 coupe cause they knew the 350z would kick it's but in the 0-60 and stopping.

the used the g35 coupe cause it was the next best thing to the 350z, but a lot more heavier so therefore the RX8 would look better.

It's just a marketing technique I guess. any marketing people out there? They just caused an illusion so the market for the RX8 would be good. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img] IMO

These car mags have to make their money somehow and it's off of advertising revenue. I'd wager that Mazda just upped Infiniti for the month, so they got the win. The fact that it only won by a point shows that C&D didn't necessarily want to **** off Infiniti though either. I don't put any credence in C&D comparos - I find they have some immense biases (just take a look at any comparo with a BMW and I have yet to see a BMW lose).

as for the RX8.....0-60 time is 6.2S, which the G and Z clearly beat, i dont know how they decided that its a better car overall, ill read the articles tonite man

wow cool555 that has to be a first. But then, they were probably rating them mostly on their AWD abilities where BMW is a relative newcomer to the market compared to Audi and Subaru - the BMW'ss AWD system is probably nowhere near as advanced as those 2.

If you still look at most of the top luxury sedans, coupes, etc comparisons, the BMW comes out on top even if by a hair. I've even seen cases where their number ratings do not match up whatsoever to what they say in the article itself. It's like they just play with the numbers enough to make the Bimmer win.

 

I just saw car and driver on tv over the weekend, and they had a comparrisson with the rx8, g35 coupe and cobra mustang...
Too sum it up...The rx8 won...they said it was more nimble, about 500 pounds lighter too...but the only problem, that it is very underpowered... g35 coupe got second place and mustang dead last...

The RX8 does nothing for me.The G is much better looking,faster and more luxurious but the RX8 is new so the attention is on it(for now).

Interestingly, Car & Driver rated the 3 cars in the opposite order of performance. The Mustang Cobra (390 bhp and 390 lb-ft) was by far the fastest (4.6sec to 60mph) yet they ranked it 3rd.
