when raising hood, it touches right fender preventing it from opening!

When I went to raise my hood a few days ago, it started to touch the right front fender, at the rear corner portion near the hinge area. This never occurred before, and has me baffled as I never hit anything with the car prior to this. What could cause this? I tried to pry apart that area with my hands, and now less contact is being made, but it still seems very close.

Is this a common issue? I have read about hinges bending, but I dont think mine are bent?

sounded like something got hit somewhere. The hood shouldn't rub, i don't think. Maybe the hinge got loose and you just need to readjust it.

It's just like swapping a trunk lid. It's just misaligned. I don't know about the G's, but you should be able to just loosen or tighten to your discretion. Make sure not to slam it after "realigning" it, because you might have over corrected somewhere because it will slam and rub. You don't want to be messing around with paint after this pain in the ***, either. Good luck.

Lubing mine (white lithium spray grease) improved the situation greatly.

Hood issues....?

It's not uncommon but it sounds like your hood hinge is broken. Check it out,
s/b warranty.

Yeah, take it to the dealer. Mine went bad and scratched the paint on the fender and hood. The dealer fixed it and paid for the repaint under warranty.

Yeah - this was my post. Sucks but what are you gonna do. Just buy new hinges and get them put on. Sooner or later, they are going to go. The hinges cost me about $20 bucks each and the dealer charged me $100 to replace both sides and touch up the fender where it hit.

Now that you have noticed this, I would not recommend the two person hood opening procedure unless it is an emergency. There is so much strain on the hood from the siezed hinges that I'm sure you are putting strain on the hood bolt where it attaches to the hinge. If you crack that, you are screwed. Just leave it alone, get new hinges, get them put on and call it a day. Once these hinges start siezing, they are unbelievably tough to move. Like I said in my post, I couldn't operate the hinge for the life of me so I can only imagine how much torque is on the hinge bolts of the hood when you open the hood with a siezed hinge.

Can someone post a pic of a failed hinge? I'm curious to know why they seem to be problematic. How difficult can it be to make a reliable hinge? This is certainly the first I've ever heard about it in any car. Are these more prone in the colder climates where snow is affecting it?

I have the failed ones in my garage. When I get home next week, I'll post up a few pictures. The problem is that I don't have a non bent hinge to compare it to but the arm of the hinge is bent in a good 30 degrees.

any update one this design/the issue and why it happens?

It looks like my passanger side is failing as it already chipped the corner

I still have warranty left but, I have already been in quite a few times recently since I have gotten the car and am getting tired of making this a habit for these things such as this. However with winter coming up I would like to get this resolved so the corner doesn't begin rusting.

Will they replace both hinges even if only one is really causing problems at the moment (however I am sure the other site is bad as well).

Thanks!
