i smoked the tails on my old ride - a maxima - using VHT NiteShades...worked like a champ.

back then, i did a how-to here:

obviously it's a maxima...but the info about Niteshades might be helpful to you none-the-less.

because if they decide to go back to "stock" down the road all they have to do is peel the vinyl overlay off, however, if you paint them its a long and difficult process to get them back to how they were, not even sure if its possible.

I'd go overlay only because it is not permanent. If you get harassed by cops in your area, then that's definitely the way to go. Plus if you happen not to like it, then you can always remove them.

I'd go VHT if you want something permanent, inexpensive, or if you want to be able to adjust the darkness of the tint. You can always spray a little for a smoked look or a lot for a blacked out look.

its painted. It looks unique because the roof and the tail lights have pearl on it so it looks original. cops never stop me for my tail lights ( because it is very light, my headlights are smoked also very light. ) I got a seat belt ticket a week ago, the cop noticed my tinted windows ( limo tint ), no front licence plate ( he just gave me a ticket for seat belt ) but not a word about smoked tail lights.

yea. i have gotten pulled over just a hand full of times but ive been driving since i was 15 and had all my cars go dark on tightlights. i just prefer it. but sickk of gittin pulled over, so i smoked the tail lights not to dark where it would be black but just enough to change the look make it darker but not enought to get pulled over. look > this is how i went.
