How to arrange & setup a Meet ???

Hi,

For people who've arranged meets in the past, if you could help me out a little, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am thinking of arranging a general car meet for the car enthusiasts in my school. Something not so professional, but just an event where we can get together, chat about each others cars, take picture, have some fun, go for a drive, get something to eat, etc... I am realizing more and more that there are a lot of nice cars and a lot of car enthusiasts on campus, and I thought it would be great to get together and have a good time.

How should I take my first steps to arrange a succesful meet? Any inputs are welcome.

Thank you, Young S Kim

I've run a few shows before and goodie bags are great hand outs and easy to get for free. If you have a flyer for your show, Summit Racing will send you a BIG box of goodies to hand out. I got a big vinyl banner, bags, catalogs, stickers, key chains etc etc. Just call them up and they will have you mail proof that your having the show to them. Then the box of goodies will arrive. Jegs also does this.

Well I wouldn't really call it a show, but a small gathering. Would they still give me free handouts?

Also what kind of location should I pick? Don't meets attract cops like crazy?

Re: How to arrange & setup a Meet ???

From my experience, if you really want a huge turnout give about at least a month in advanced notice. Check with your the security at the place you are going to have the meet. I highly recomend that you have the meet at a forest preserve and rent a lot so the cops wont have to hassle anyone. But make sure you have a set of rules to tell everyone so there wont be any hassles from the cops. If its at a parking lot make sure the parking lot can handle the crowd you expect to come. If you want to, try posting on local car forums to make it a great turnout. And again give them about a month in advanced so they could plan their schedule out for that day. If the meet is at a forest preserve try serving food and charge for food to help pay for renting out that lot and food. Cuz if there is food they will come believe me. When everything is settled start making a headcount so you know how many people are expected to show up so you can get and idea of how much food and so n so stuff like that. There is a lot more i could say but i don't want to write a novel. But this should give a basic idea on how to start a general car meet.
