Hurricane Ike drowned my G ; ;

I had a Laser Red 03 6mt. I loved it. It is more than likely totalled now. I can't go to Galveston Island to see her. I plan to be in the market for another once I find out for sure what the insurance company plans to do with it. Should I buy it back salvaged and part it out? It was for the most part stock. In the event I get an 05+ the brembo brakes alone would make the purchase of the drowned car worth it? Say they sold the car back to me totalled for 3k'ish?

Why didn't you drive it out? And if you can get 3kish or less, you can probably make some money, because I'm pretty sure the Brembos are like 2.5k themselves aren't they? And then people buy some other parts, but your gonna have to make sure they work.

Why you didn't drive it way from the IKE......yIF youre goin to get it just make sure that the parts youre goin to sell are working and yet you will benefit in some ways.. (let me know if the 3rd brake light is still working)...

Wow, sorry to hear about the loss of your G.

On the bright side of things, you're alive and well.

Best of luck in your search for a new G.

More hassle than its worth. Then you're gonna have to deal with water damaged seals, rusted bolts, stench of the car. I say give it to the insurance company and save yourself a major headache. Glad to hear you're safe from the hurricane though.

Well my wife and I had booked a cruise for our anniversary. Carnival wouldn't let us cancel the cruise and get a refund. They would keep 100% of our money. We had also made plans for my parents and her parents to switch off watching our 4yr old and 1 1/2yr old for the time we were gone, which meant they had to schedule time off work etc along with what we had to schedule off. For me, getting time off work is a bish. I had planned to find an elevated parking garage once we got down to Galveston (we live in Dallas).

We get down there and I ask the people at the port parking where a parking garage is so I could try to park my car there and they told me there weren't any and that was the only place I could park my car. Well they lied.... And we decided rather than cancel our anniversary vacation, and lose a lot of money, we would park there and chance something happening. When we were boarding the ship a couple of people behind us in line were making small talk; where they were from etc. They were from Houston and surrounding areas and were evidently pretty familiar with Galveston, and the topic of where they parked came up. One of them had parked in the empty hospital parking garage, and another was told by a hotel there that they could use their empty parking garage as well What a kick in the nuts.

I've never had a car "totalled out" by an insurance co. before. I don't know if they just send the cars off to the crusher after, or sell them to scrap metal yards or what. Since I plan to buy another G after this is all said and done, I would like to try and get some of the parts I put on it off, mainly the slotted/dimpled rotors. And I was hoping to just get the Brembo brake kit. It's looking like if I got another it would be an 05+, and I don't even know if I could fit the Brembos from 03-04s onto 05+ or not (should probably search lol). So yeah probably not even worth it. I was hoping if I could do that, then I could part out fenders, bumpers, trunk, spoiler, hood and anything else that was still in good shape mechanically and make a bit of the money back and maybe break even. Of course at this point I haven't seen the car and it was probably crushed between other cars in the parking lot so the body might be pretty beat up as well. My wife and I's loaded pistols were locked in the car which also has me worried.

Hindsight is 20/20 blah blah something something. I wish we had rented a car to take down there or something different, but we were just so eager to take a vacation without the kids and get away from the crazy stress we've been facing over the last 6 months or so that we weren't really thinking about something like that. Oh well, thems the breaks. Found a black on black 06 6mt I'd like to go ahead and jump on, but I can't do anything til' the insurance co. lets me know what they're gonna do. In the meantime I'm rollin' an 09 Chevy Aveo with manual everything (locks, windows, mirrors, what is this 1970???). I'm thankful it was just my car though, and feel bad for the people who live in the area and really lost everything

Buy it back. What color is your interior? I would be interested in some of the plastic panels and titanium trim peices.

I had a 99 DSM with a lot of aftermarket parts on it. I had wrecked the car and the insurance totaled it out. Before the adjuster had a chance to look at the car though we stripped it down, as in replaceing the rims, stereo, nitrous, all kinds of stuff. As long as the car looked stock and not completely bare then they dont really care. All that will happen is they might give you book value for it, they dont look at aftermarket stuff to raise the value.

Brembos came stock on 03-04 6mt. The rotors were and pads were aftermarkets I put on before a track day. I was planning to ask the adjuster if I could take them off though (both the rotors and the brembos). It shouldn't need brakes/rotors on a tow truck right?

Black interior. If the price to buy back is right you'll be the first person I let know lol.

Well Galveston Island is closed to the general public and I live 4 and a half hours away so there is probably no chance I'll get to see it before an adjuster does. They know the lot that its parked in as well as make, model, and license plate #. They said they have a bunch of other insured vehicles in the same lot too. Sucks.

Sorry about your car...but as an aside...why did you bring loaded pistols for a four drive when you'd just be parking the car?

I CCW all the time. People get shot in the face at redlights or get robbed at ATMs everyday Let's not turn this into an anti/pro gun issue lol.
