What could have caused this? *PIC*
I bought my 05 G35 about a month ago now. Yesterday i had to disconnect the battery to install my GPS. When I opened my hood I noticed something very odd. My hood rubs the passenger fender corner when opening. Its so bad that the hood literally stops about a third of the way open as it scrapes the fender well. The car had a clean carfax with no accidents reported and the Infiniti dealer certified it. Is this something that just happens to some G's or do you think it was involved in an accident?
Im going to take it into the dealer wed. of next week. This better be something covered under warranty or im going to have a damn fit!

Someone had the hood off at one time and didnt take the time to align it right. Its easy, just loosen the 4 bolts, get an extra hand and move it around and close the hood lightly everytime you make an adjustment until its right
Your hinges are starting to bend. Search for a thread on it under my name and you'll find out. This is a "common" problem. Aligning your hood will only do so much. I would get new hinges installed. I had a small chip and fixed it with touch up paint and it looks perfect. I would totally stop opening your hood until you get it fixed though to minimize further damage.
holy cow! i have a 2004.5 5AT and mine has the exact same paint chip in the same spot. All this time i thought that some rogue rock on the freeway flew up and hit it in just the right spot (albeit and odd spot at that)! Now i know i'll have to definitely look into getting new hood hinges.

That is my take on it.
Good Luck... and yes it is an easy fix... also putting a touch of "touch up" as someone else said will work fine on an edge like that. It should not be too noticable at all.
