Installing a k&n...

Finally got around to picking up the filter, going to install it tomorrow- any idea on how long it should take/anything to watch out for that's tricky? changing the air filter was a pain in the *** on my mustang- stupid grommets never lined up and it was always a struggle because it just barely fit (thanks Ford for giving me enough room, lol)

Re: Installing a k&n...

This is a pain in the butt too! What I did was remove the screw on the right side airbox suport, remove the throttle body hose and carefully slide the old filer out and new filter in.

Some guys are taking the left side air scoop off, and some are taking the whole box out. I didn't do all of that. Just take your time and be careful.

This and the oil filter are two examples where Infiniti could have made it easier for DIYers.

bigel,

Sounds like a pain in the royal **** to get the new filter in but I bet it sounds mean. If you could post pics of what the "finished product" looks like, I know that I (and I'm sure others) would be most appreciative.

The pic of my K&N installed.
K&N should be coming out with their new CAI in the next few weeks. That's rumoured to work real well.

Re: Installing a k&n...

wheh, got it installed, it was a PITTA. I tried removing the 4gold screws, too hard to get to the one on the left underside. I used these directions:

http://ns1.columbusinteractive.com/airbox.htm

very easy actually, just time consuming. i figured putting the hose on would be difficult, it wasn't

Impressions- it seems to rev faster and I was suprised that I noticed a SOTP pants feeling- i don't doubt it gave like 5rwhp. On the mustang, my butt-dyno didn't detect any difference, here there was a noticeable difference(not like a supercharger or gears difference, but it was there). Very worth it

With the k&n cai, my guess is it may yield like 3 or 4more hp, but the current setup seems pretty effective and I'm happy with it. Next mod- twin turbo

If rumours are true it's gonna be a little more than 3 or 4 dude. The new system is supposed to be very efficient and cooler. We'll see.

Re: Installing a k&n...

the air filter i yanked out is definately not a nismo filter....seems like people with Gs are dynoing up like 4-5rwhp more with just a k&n dropped in

......well, guess we'll see just how well the intake works then......i was reading some posts about it actually being ineffecient on 350z? so who knows
