yeah, 540i's are definately highway speed demons. I'm gonna have to race my friend again to see the difference my intake made...(probably not much at all but never hurts to see. =P)

I dont know wut you guys are talkin about. The 330ci's would not be a better race then the manual 540's. The 330's do not put up any fight. My friends 540 manual smokes all 330's and is a pretty good race for me. Then again it might all be in the years of the 540's, my friends is a 98 and here are the stats: 0-60: 5.5
1/4 Mile: 14
1/4 Speed: 103

Now we are getting real with the last post! Sorry, but any stock 540 will easily beat any stock 330 (if the driver knows what he is doing). The 540 V8 is a damn powerful engine - auto or stick - and can run with an M3.
That being said, the G Coupe is a good match for a 540 - a real compliment to the G's engine The G probably is faster at lower speeds, but the 540 V8 would probably pull away at higher speeds. The difference is that the 540 V8 would do it without breaking a sweat, in quit luxury!
The 540's range from 280-290hp, but have way more torque than the G. The new 545's have 325 hp and 6 speed trans in auto or stick. So watch out.
In case you couldn't tell, I own a 540 and a G coupe!!!!

 

Good to no someone else knows .. I dun think the 540 will run with an m3 tho, u'll need some heavy mods...

6MT 540's are quick so don't kid your self. They were rated depending on which magazine you read as 5.4-5.5 to sixty. the 4.0 V8 puts out 282HP. It would pretty much be a drivers race. Your race may have been a fluke or you raced an AT version.

I raced a 540 from a stop light with my SHO. I started off fast while he eased off. Once he saw I had about 1 car lengths on him I could hear him grabbing for gears. I held him off until 60 when I shut it down. The speed limit on the expressway was only 45 so I didn't want to draw any unwanted attention. Of course he had to blow by me to save face to his passenger buddy.

Glad to hear that the 540 is respectable. In my case I lost to one because I didnt launch (btw he had auto). I saw a silver Bimmer weaving through traffic to get up to the front and we were both stopped at a red light. I looked over because I saw him driving crazy to pull up next to me and so when he did I figured he wanted to race. Being a newbie to racing I turn off my VDC and push into 1st (but I didnt launch which I hear makes the difference in a drivers race) he had a car length and a half by the time we reached 65mph and after that the gap didnt close or get bigger. Stopped at about 90 and he took off. When I told my friends what happened they said its because I didnt launch and that if I did I would have probably won.
