To darken the tail lights there are several methods.

Tint. Vinyl. NightShade. Paint.

I went with Vinyl.

i smoked the tails on my old ride - a maxima - using VHT NiteShades...worked like a champ. quick and cheap.

obviously it's a maxima...but the info about Niteshades might be helpful to you none-the-less.
