How do you know if you damaged the tranny internally from removing/installing ****?

Soo...i purchased the Rogue Short shifter when i did my clutch replacement...ever since it was installed there has been a rattle inside of it.

Well tonight, i decided to investigate...i put my grips under and over, did it proper and removed the ****...there SHE WAS...that little bevealed Spacer!!

So i figured the reason it was vibrating around was because the **** wasnt turned far enough on there.

SOOOO it began. I turned and turned...and about the 10th or so turn, it started getting really tough. So i stopped...tapped my hand on the shift ****, and the damn thing still rattled.

So i Force it to turn more and more...tap it, still RATTLES!....turn turn, and then its starting to slip and starts leaving marks on the shifter..

F....so i retighten, and clamp it REAL hard at the base to turn it another 180Degrees to be upright....SNAP. the damn metal ring snapped off the bottom of the OEM shift ****...

Pissed off now, i clamp the bottom of the leather and turn it the rest of the 80degrees. Then i tap it again, STILL RATTLES!!

by this time I was outraged by this stupid design....so i say F it, and i begin to removed the **** and then throw the Spacer in the trash.

BUT...now the metal base is broke...about 3 turns it(10minutes each as the **** starts to get destroyed), i let go of the wrenches and go on a mad frenzy to remove the **** by hand and pour gasoline on it.(yes it is now dead and a momo one from an old racecar is on there)..

I did try to keep it in neutral and it didnt seem to me that the linkage was twisting, but i was differntly tugging on it..

soo how can i tell if i did damage...shifting is ackward because i barely screwed the momo on...and its new to me on the g...

Yea, thats why you shouldn't go crazy on it.

The little metal spacer will rattle if its on backwards, it has a lip, flip it over and put the **** back down. Or trash it, it doesn't matter. ...what you shouldn't do is over tighten the **** and break stuff. obviously.

Man, I just got rid of the spacer. There is no need for it.

You are right though, it is essentially impossible to get that shift **** down as far on the shaft as the factory did. When I replaced my shift boot I couldn't even come close to how far they had it down without twisting the new shift boot all to hell. I have no idea how they did that at the factory.
