Help - Driver Seat Problem - 04 Coupe

First and foremost I apologize if this question has been asked/answered in the past. I researched and could not find a similar topic. That said, my issue pertains to my 2004 Coupe drivers seat. When the seat moves back and forth it now makes a clicking noise. When the seat is almost at the furthest point back the right rail seems to be “stuck” and the seat turns left slightly since the left rail can still move. It seems to be only about an inch or so before the end of the track when the right rail seems to be stuck. I took car to the dealer (out of warranty by 1K miles) and they said I need new seat rails for a total cost of 1000 dollars. Needless to say I am not paying that. I did contest with Infiniti Consumer Affairs since the car is just out of warranty but they said they will not pay.

Will the seat get worse?
Is there a fix so that seat can go all the way again without replacing rails?

Many thanks in advance.

I got the exact same problem. I have been thinking perhaps there is something stuck under the seat and If remove the seat my self I might be able to figure out what it could be. I hope someone has an easier solution.

I had the same problems on my 04 sedan. First I got a popping sound, which was one of the gears slipping due to the track binding. Next, the motor started really struggling and then it finally stopped working all together. I followed the instructions below for the Maxima and they were pretty close. Overall it took about 2hrs, but it only lasted a month or so. I think it started with the two tracks being slightly out of alignment. The last time I took it apart, the motion sensor had broken, so now I am not sure what to do. The dealership wants $855 for the whole riser assembly, but all I need is a tiny piece of metal. I am thinking about soldering something in to complete the circuit.

Yes.. definitely do this. It won't fix your problem, but it's good preventative maintenance to do on them. My passengers side seat started making some weird rough/clicky type noises when it was moving forwards and backwards on the track, so I took a few minutes and cleaned the track up with some rags and put a safe amount of white lithium grease on the track and it fixed the problem.. no more noise.

White Lithium Grease FTMFW!!

or use white lithium grease..... LOL i use both for similar applications. i felt that the silocone is a little thicker and not as likely to stain carpet or possible seat

I just took mine to the dealership for a different problem and the service guy told me they would replace my seat rails because they have been known to be defective (03-05). My car is still under warranty, so its free.
