BIg problem with my coupe :(

I bought my car about 5 weeks ago. A new 04 red 6mt. When I bought it I was out of town and It was late in the day. I didn't get to really take a look at it, I just test drove it, filled out the paper work and drove it home. The dealership didn't clean it up very well so when I got home I started cleaning the interior. I noticed that there was what looked like red over spray on a few interior pieces. The driver side window also looks like there is clear coat over spray on it. Then, a few days later I took it through an automatic car wash and when the water would spray on the drivers side of the car, water would come through the window. Finally, last night I was waxing the car becuase it also had a few scraches from when I got it. After I had taken all the wax off I looked it over realy carefully and it looks like there is sand marks from it being re-painted. I used my dad's paint thickness gauge on my car. The left side from the door back is 6.5-18 mils. Everywhere else is around 4-4.5. I checked a few of my dad's cars that we know haven't been painted and they're all 4-4.5 mils too. When I bought the car it had 130 miles on it. Now, it has 1,300.

I called Infiniti today to see what they are going to do about it and they didn't seem to helpful. I may call one of the guys here to see if they can help me out. I dont want it fixed, I just want a new car. If I go to sell this I will have to sell it as being damaged at one time and repainted. It will kill my resale value.

that sucks, but since it had a bunch of miles on it (130), did they sell it to you as a demo vehicle or something, cause if they did then you're probably out of luck. All the new cars I've bought only had a few miles (10 to 16) on the odometer.

I bought it as "new". They said the miles were from test drives.

What dealership did you buy it from? Why don't you take it back to them and tell them what you just discovered? It should be stated in your contract that car is new and free of damage and defects upon delivery of vehicle. The fact that they sold you the car without telling you that it was damaged before is illegal. The dealership where you bought it from is liable for this. Remember there is such a thing as "FULL DISCLOSURE" when buying a car from any dealer. If they don't replace your car you can seek legal counsel and sue the living crap out of them.

I bought it from Tim Dahle Infiniti In salt lake city utah. (don't buy from them) I would just take it back but I live 3 hours away so that is why I made the phone calls before hand. If they don't take care of it I'm going to call the better business bureau. They have an automotive section that I can talk to.

Dude call a lawyer and you will probably get a new car. They are not allowed to sell a new car that has been damaged without disclosing the damage. If you let this go it will only be for the worse. I dont think the BBB is going to do anything for you. So dont drive your car or limit driving it until this problem is resolved. Seriously though try to get a lawyer to handle this and threaten the dealer a little bit they might give in. Also call INFINITI customer service and complain to them about the dealership. I hope all works out for you.

Call the Infiniti of North America Headquarters. They're easier to deal with than your dealership.

I get a little water that comes in through the window when going through a touch-free car wash. Usually near the mirror. Doesn't happen every time and it's just a few drops.

Call a lawyer, tell him to pull the case of Gore v. BMW from Alabama a couple years ago.

I would do what Rob said...get a lawyer and had it to them...you'll not only get a new car, but I bet you can get a lot more out of them...good luck.

I agree that a call to Infiniti NA is more likely to get you results than a call to the BBB. The BBB is really only good if you want to see if a company has complaints against them BEFORE you do business with them.

It's probably a good idea to call Infiniti NA before an attorney as well, because it will show a good-faith effort on your part to try to get the problem resolved before jumping into any legal recourse. You're not required to wait, but it couldn't hurt. Besides, if Infiniti NA helps you out, then you just saved the attorney fees that you would have incurred otherwise.

Wishfull thinking, I know, but what's it going to hurt?

I think I will call Infiniti North America. The last thing I want to do is call a lawyer. But, if I have to I will. Does anyone have a phone number for Infiniti NA?

Re: BIg problem with my coupe :(

I've been through this before, it took me 2 lawyers, & 5 years. Neither lawyer helped, but a letter to a local news station and a TV spot, when the lemon law was being signed in MA did the trick. Publicity of the raw deal will get you quicker action than a bunch of lawyers. You must 1st give the dealership / infinity the opportunity to correct the situation. Which would be a new car. Keep in mind as long as you own the car if after along court battle they will depreciate the value the give you for the car. its a long pain in the azz battle but it can be done.
good luck, hope it works out
