you asked about the difference in stopping power from a BBK from what he previously had. and tires are one of the biggest factors in braking power.

i think your skipping a few posts here...

^lol i didn't skip any posts and it still makes no sense to me. He's getting a bigger BBK, why are you talking about tires?

If he is asking about whether to get new brakes or new tires then your post might be more relevant..

all hes saying is that no matter how big the BBK is your tires are the most important factor. Hes just trying to be a nice guy and makes sure the OP has good tires before thinking his 6pot 5grand BBK makes his car do stoppies

Somewhat not true, you can get MORE negative G's (heh, heh, I said Gee!) with a BBK. But 30% of stopping power is in the brakes and 70% is in the TIRES! Sticky rubber = better stopping power.

Look in the new issue of "Modified" magazine (page 72). They put an AP racing BBK on a G35 coupe and as Mike said, you get a LOT more fade resistance, but they also got better stopping POWER. The stock brakes, even with Hawk HPS pads only made TWO LAPS on the track when they WENT AWAY COMPLETELY! The AP kit saw temps reduced by 50% and ZERO fade on the track. They improved their lap times by 2.5 seconds by the BBK ALONE!

Hawk HPS pads are hardly high performance pads. They're popular for being quiet and low dust.

Again, the stock system (and many LESSER systems) have more than enough braking power to lock up the tires.

Even the puny brakes on a Civic or Corolla can lock up the brakes. Modified Magazine has a vested interest in giving positive reviews; I do not.

Increased braking power is as easy as putting a high performance pad inside the OEM caliper. Anti-Fade is the primary purpose of getting a BBK; the Modified article focuses mainly on the resistance to high temperature and fade on the BBK reviewed.

I can supply you with brake pads that bite so hard that you'll set off ABS with the slighest touch of the brake pedal unless you have racing slicks on. They'll also finish off your rotors very quickly, be super loud, and dust like no other

If you look at the data they downloaded on G forces on the track, you will see that the BBK was able to put more woah to the track than the stock kit was.

well lets be honest...BBK upgrades are only for cosmetic purposes for a daily driven car that doesn't see any events in its future. the only significant differences you'll be able to notice are during track or race events where your brakes go through the stress and actual work load.

you can simply upgrade lines, rotors, pads, fluid and notice probably a similar difference to a BBK on the streets. i'm sure people will disagree with me, but some of those 6 piston calipers and larger really need some significant heat and wear to get them operating at their best

and lastly, brakes are a really technical subject. takes a lot of trial and error to find a well balanced setup. slapping on a $3k+ BBK off the shelf and thinking you've got a super car setup is a myth.

i'll be upgrading maybe next season, but i know my stock brakes are plenty for me...their just not as cosmetically appealing really lolol.

That's exactly what I did with the StopTech Stage II kit.
