WHY NOT A G45...
Re: WHY NOT A G45...
$70k, that's what I've heard from my local dealer as well (they also referred to the new Skyline as being Infiniti badged) - as far as anyone will believe the dealers.
Unfortunately, spanking M3's won't be that easy when the R35 finally comes out - future M3's are to have V-8's pumping out 400hp. Guess they finally acknowledged that Audi beat them to the punch - but I bet BMW executes it better.
Infiniti DOES need to come out with a "G45," something to bridge the G35 with this Skyline - around $50k. I know the M45's coming, but I'm hoping for an 8 cylinder version of a coupe. Maybe they can "sleeken" up the M45, trim a few pounds, drop two of the doors, and... ta da! G45!
I can have flights of fancy, can't I?

That figure gotta be wrong. Who would buy a 70k dollar Nissan. Not even Lexus or Acura has the audacity to price their top end that high. I think the main selling point of Japanese import luxury sedans are near build quality but a better value and reliability than European luxury. Same goes with VW lately. Who pays a 90k VM Phataen when you can get a S class at the same price. Be exciting to see a v8 G but not at 70k

I agree about the Nissan badge, but if they decide to market it as an Infiniti, they might be able to pull it. Heck the Lexus SC series, is in the neighborhood of $62,000 and that's just the base price....

Re: WHY NOT A G45...
The NSX is $80k and probably meets sales expectations. If the GTR is the "Halo" car for Infiniti, it needs to be priced high enough to maintain some exclusivtivity as it's more for image than high sales. $70k sounds good to me and something I can work towards.
As for something between the G35c and the GTR, it's called the M45c. Infiniti has already announced a coupe version of the M45. Although I think Infiniti eventually needs to have performance versions of their cars (like M, AMG, etc...). Factory G35c with twin turbos would be sweet. For that I would upgrade.

I haven't heard that... interesting. Wonder how it'd look, since it sounds like they'll be deriving the styling from the M platform? Hopefully the interior will be the same . If it's around the $50k point like the M45, I'd bite in a few years (unless I go the TT route in upgrading the G - I love this chassis). As for $70k? Doubt I'd get the wife to sign off on it - when I was shopping for a car earlier this year, I couldn't even make it on the lot to test drive an S4 (hah - the extended family must have warned her - LOL).
...but now I'm pretty glad it worked out this way. Now I can argue the money saved can be put into a TT.

Re: WHY NOT A G45...
Wut are you talking about xswl0931, first of all GTR is a performance version of the skyline. And why would they twin turbo charge a G35 and put out a V8 GTR. Just because YOU can afford 70k doesn't mean they will sell it for 70k. If your not so familiar with GTRs they are sold around the world for around 50-60k. Now why would the price jump 10k+? So rich old guys like you can exclusively own them? Sorry but GTRs are not exculsive cars, they're about M3 level cars. So if you want exclusive save up for couple more years and buy a Carrera GT.
Re: WHY NOT A G45...
I would love to have a G45 except it would screw up the wait balance. However a I woulddn't mind a M45c if that comeout I would like it something to compete against a CLK500 basicaly. Whatever happend about about the "Infiniti R-Spec" factory performance division to compete against "M power" and "AMG"
Re: WHY NOT A G45...
Ximer, you must not be up on the latest news. Although the previous GTR is the performance version of the Skyline, Nissan has said the new GTR is a completely seperate design. Ghosen has already said their are designing the GTR to compete with the 911 not M3/S4. It is not supposed to be in the same market as previous Skyline GTRs. It is the flagship of the Infiniti line. As for "rich old guys", I guess that's true if you consider 29 old. And before you get any ideas, I earned all the money I'm making.
Re: WHY NOT A G45...
Acura might cancel their NSX line because its not profitable :-(
Seriously guys. If you have 70k to shop for an uber coupe would you spend it on a M45 or the new v8 M3? That's a no brainer. Then of course Bangle might make the new M3 really ugly. There is practically no atttractive car in bmw line except for the M3 now days.

Re: WHY NOT A G45...
I find it hard to believe Acura would cancel their NSX line considering they showed the HSC concept which many people think is an indicator of the next NSX model.
I don't believe the M45c will be $70k. It'll probably be a little more than the M45 sedan which is a $43k car.
Between the upcoming GTR and M4, I'd have to see the specs and go for a test drive before saying which car I would get. I certainly don't buy cars just because of their brand.

Re: WHY NOT A G45...
NSX death is a hotly debated issue.. We will see soon enough.
The NSX has not made sales expectations except for the first couple years (91,92). It is a halo car for Acura/Honda and well regarded thoughout the world. It's target market was the Ferrari 348. It currently competes with the Porche 996 platform. NSX can be had for about 70-80K new (with deep discounts being offered), Zanardi edition no longer available.
A turbo G35 or G45 for 50-70K would compete directly with the Porche 996 (and soon 997) platform. I think it would compete well if they were priced lower and gave better performance. But, it would have to weigh less and have better handling than the Porche (hard target to meet).
The sports car world is very competitive with some great cars out now at or above 50-70K, and more powerful models all being announced.

Re: WHY NOT A G45...
Not gonna make it a $70K. That is 911 territory. You can buy a new 04 996 for $74K. Thats with 40 years of heritage. They are going to have to keep it around low to mid $50 to make it work. I believe it will compete with the new M3, not the 911. That would be a mistake. Part of Infiniti's current marketing scheme compares the G35 with the BMW 330i. It's logical to take the next step to an M3 beater. Also 400hp in an approximately 3300 lb car ain't going to rock anyones world these days. New 04 Z06 vettes at approximately 3150 lbs with 405hp can be had for about $45K now. They were $51K to 53K when the 03's/04s came out. The new Z06 will probably come in around MSRP $60K -65K plus or minus. Thats with what is estimated to be at 480 - 500 hp and 2900 to 3000 lbs. For around $50K to $55K I'll bite for a GTR/Skyline that will probably be a high 12 second car. For $70K I'll buy a 911 or the new C6 Z06 for less. For those that mod think about what $15 to $20K in Factory amortized production dollars could do for our G35's right now. Can you say Twin Turbos and an improved version of the 4WD you can already buy! It's not that much of a stretch. .
