Thumping sound on smooth road

while driving on a smooth road i hear a thumping sound coming from the car. i'm not quite sure where it's coming from but i suspect it's from one of the wheels since the frequency of the thump increases with speed. it's very subtle and can only be heard on a smooth road. it sounds like i'm driving over creases in the road but i'm not. any idea on what this could be? i have 10,000 miles on the car and i haven't had my wheels swapped or balanced.

Dude one of your tires might be a little flat. Take it to the nearest gas station and just check and see if all the tires are around the psi you keep them at.

the pressure sensors all look ok (that's the first thing i checked). I have had a tire patched by the dealer because of a nail, i guess i'll have my wheels balanced and swapped to see if that fixes the problem.

sounds like what i had - separated tread!
I had 5000k on the tire and infiniti told me I needed to take it up with michelin.

get the tires put on a road tech machine, that will show if it is a separated tread.

Re: Thumping sound on smooth road

I dropped the car off at the dealer to check out the problem and they told me that there was slight cupping on the front tires due to aggressive cornering and the inablity to rotate the wheels. I have ~12,000 miles on the tires, any suggestion on what i should do? should i contact michelin? i also purchased the tire/wheel warranty but i don't think that will help this issue much. it's not that big of a problem but if there is somthing i can do about it, i definitely want to try, if not, so be it.
thx,
AaRoN

Aaronbc, Not much they can do for cupping,-- damage is already done. Just make sure the balance and alignment are good so it doesn't get worse, and is good for your next set of tires. It's not expensive to do, and will help you get max life out of your tires.
Some owners aren't getting much more than 15 to 20k with agressive driving.
