But my insurance was at home because I had just gotten my sound system installed the day before, so I was still puting stuff back into my car. And my insurance was something i was gonna put back in tomorrow (Saturday). So he starts searching my car with his flashlight, looks inback and looks in the grill to see if I had any mods like a turbo or anything. He comes up to me and hes like well, thats 1 for the tints, 1 for the LOUD EXHAUST HOW DUMB IS THAT ON A STOCK EXHAUST!!!!, and 1 for no proof of insurance. I was seriously flipping out at this point, and my friends were like is this serious or is it a joke. So after half an hour of just waiting, he comes back, takes my liseanse, gives me a ticket for no proof of insurance, and 2 warnings 1 for tinted windows (35% = nothing) and 1 for a loud exhaust on a stock car. I think this guy is accusing me of doing aftermarket mods or something cause thats seriously rediculous.
So he gives me a court date, for july 13th at 9am here in Skokie, IL. Then hes like uhh yeah, go to court it will probably be thrown out if the judge is cool but i gotta do my job. I was like officer I understand that but if you wanted to follow me home so I could show you my insurance, im cool with that. Hes like no thats not necessary just go to court with the proof of insurance. So, this stuff really ruined my whole night, we had gone for coffee and stuff downtown, went to a picnic saw some friends and had fun. Also i gotta tell my parents about this keep in mind im 17. I have no idea what to tell them or how to approach it, because I didnt get tagged for speeding or anything I was going freakin 53 on a 55 mph highway. Don't sweat it friend! Go to court and fight it. As long as you had insurance at the time of the ticket (Insurance card will prove this) that infraction will get thrown out. The exhaust is easy to deny, so don't worry about it. As for the tint; f*&^k it, remove the tint and pay the small fine. In the end you won't have any points on your record.

Don't remove the tint.... that is assinine. Depending on what state you live in, you can opt not to have it removed and just pay a little extra $ (usually less than having your tint removed and reinstalled). I would have talked shi%t to the donut eating ***** regarding the exhaust. The simple fact that he ticketed you for modified exhaust (even though your exhaust is stock) is enough to get the entire citation thrown out in court.

I hate cops - they are worthless... never there when you need them and always there to waste your time.

Sounds like he was picking on you because you where so young. Like everyone says bring in your insurance information and the case will be throw out but you might want to call the number on the ticket and explain you have proof of insurance and they might just have you come down to the court house and show them proof of insurance and drop the case before you have to appear in court.

I don't ever recommend giving a cop too much sh*t since they could start writing you up for any violation they see fit. I've had people ask me if I modified my exhaust since it sounds sooo good but I'm still running the stock one.

Like I said before he pulled you over because your so young and had some friends in the car he probably wanted to see if you guys had been drinking. I got pulled over a few months ago because the cop said that the license number didn't match the description of the car but he was full of it and I caught him in his lie later on. This cop was looking for anything to write me up for a ticket but I had all my documentation in the car and so he couldn't even warn about anything. I was not happy being pulled over on my way to work but it was amussing that jacka&* couldn't get me for anything.

One last funny story... My grandfather many moons ago bought a 1978 Ponitac Trans-Am and was pulled over a few times by cops who thought the driver of the car was a teenager but as soon as they saw my grandfather at the wheel they knew they couldn't get away with anything but one cop told him he was pulled over because he was going to fast through a yield sign!!! needless to say no ticket was issued.

I'm not too fond of cops either but the ones that make me boil are those useless Motorcycle cops with those faggy boots. arghh want purpose do they serve other then writing tickets and being escorts to funerals.

 

I'd recommend calling the local police station and leaving a message for the officer. Tell him to go to the local Infiniti dealer (on duty) and ask to hear a brand new G35 exhaust while the car is on the lot. When you go to court ask the cop if he abliged. If he says no, then the judge will throw out that portion of the case because he obviously has no idea of what a stock exhaust sounds like to compare to your exhaust.

As far as the tint goes... if it is at or above the legal limit, DEMAND that the car be tested in normal daylight with a proper tint testing device. If you're illegal, strip the tint and put on the legal limit. If you're legal, fight it.

As a parent, I'd hope that you'd be straight with your folks. Tell them EXACTLY what happened and see what they recommend you do. Remember, the way you told the story you did NOTHING wrong. If that's the truth, you have NOTHING to worry about.

did the officer tell you why he pulled you over? This is very critical in this situation because he has to have probable cause to pull you over in the first place. If he doesn't, then anything he finds subsequent to the stop is inadmissable. Also, is 35% legal in your state?

 

Thankfully I don't live in IL anymore- what a dump with IDIOT cops!

I got pulled over on I-80 during the wintertime in my 300ZX and it had the slightest tint over the license plates. I got a warning for that, but the cop never realized I had an expired tag on the plate. In IL you can easily get away with never renewing your tag and the outrageous tag fee (as long as you don't get pulled over), and here I get pulled over for having the slightest bit of tint on the plates, and they were so stupid they didn't realize I had an expired tag!

Illinois cops are IDIOTS!!!!

 

Unfortunately (Thanks Nancy) due to the New Drug Act I think they now get away with "Reasonable Suspicion", not to mention if you fit a "Profile" of a drug dealer (very loose) they now have Reasonable Suspicion. Also, unless you're charged with an actual crime, your due process is virtually non existent. Traffic law is quasi-Constitutional and it's a crime what they can get away with.

All in all this is an awesome country and I love our justice system relative to others. But there are some faults in it. Just be glad you didn't have your hand chopped off as punishment and revel in the fact that you are free enough to drive around in such a fine automobile at that hour at your age, and pay the ticket and be done with it.

By the way, that WASN'T the worst way to end a Friday. I'm out about a grand to the casinos after the dealer beat me about 15 hands in a row ...boo hooo . Now that's a crime.
