Non Navi to Navi

I have a 2003 G35 black on black. Only thing I would like to do is pull a pop up factory nav from a 2004 G35 and put it in my car. Is there anything that I should know about this procedure? Is it even possible? Get as detailed as you'd like, I'm an installer so I'll be able to understand.

Thanks!

It's possible but will cost time and money. You will need to purchase the 03-04 Navi system, change the upper glove box, and here's the tedious part...the wire harness behind the dashboard and the ECU. The factory navi is read through the ECU and I believe the speed sensor (someone correct me if I am wrong). You'd be better just buying a G with navi.

I would like to know too because I am not a fan of the double din. I think the factory pop up navi is much cleaner and looks alot better. I expected that it was too much work tho.

yes its possibe but as Hi-Tech_G said it will cost alot of time and money.

It's been done by a few people on the board, search and you can find their threads. As mentioned, it is very costly and the general consensus is it's not worth your time or money.

Would a carputer make a viable option?

Too much work, too much money, too much time. Get the Tom-Tom and throw it in that box, you can make it look as nice.

Beebo 02-16-2009 01:35 PM

like the above has said not worth it, get an aftermarket navi and put it in the upper glove box

prolly_jojo 02-16-2009 01:40 PM

double din does not look too bad... if done properly it can look pretty sick

Darkstar752 02-16-2009 01:42 PM

I believe the install time is about 8-10 hours by someone who knows what they are doing.

PM member/staff Glex25 if you have any questions about the install

I always look at my car as projects so build time on taking that pocket out and putting the factory nav in my opinion is well worth it. I work on cars all day long so 8-10 hours isn't discouraging lol. Oh and there is no way to compare throwing a Tom Tom in the pocket in comparison to the factory pop up nav.

If anyone can find a write up on this I would be most appreciative!!

P.S.--I already have the double din Pioneer F900BT, its clean but there is still nothing like that popup.

Thanks

We've got a search button that comes in handy.

It's a general write up by someone that did it, but should help answer a lot of Qs.

I think Navi is a really nice upgrade to the interior.
