Track days and you brakes

For those of you that have gone to atleast two track days with your G, how did your brakes hold up? Let me know the details, slow track, highspeed track, oem pads, aftermarket pads, weather, your driving skill etc.

I am curious to know if the OEM Brembos can with stand track days or will I have to upgrade if/when I buy a G.

I did some very spirited driving (although not the same demand on the brakes as at the track level) around the hills and canyons and the brembos on my 6MT held up great! No fading whatsoever. You have to remember these are basically the same brakes that are on Porsches and things. I really don't think you'd need a different system for the track.

yeah i agree they should be fine for the track, although if you want to go all-out then maybe get your rotors slotted and cross drilled for better cooling...or get some custom fender-work done to allow more airflow into the wheel wells to further cool down the brakes.
These brembos are awesome, the only thing that might be of concern to me is heat dissipation on a hot twisty track where road temps can easily climb to 120.

I think everyone is waiting for some cross-drilled rotors for their brembo's. After driving in the Shendandoah mountains, I have made my brembo's smoke. But they still had great stopping power.

Re: Track days and you brakes

Thanks for the reply guys, but the track is much harder on your car then the street and a hell of a lot more fun, if you have not gone to a track day hurry up, but be prepared for the addiction.

Crossdrilled rotors are not going to help, they'll just crack which is what I am trying to avoid. I have the 13.1 rotors and the AP Racing calipers just as good if not better then Brembos, the rotors (Stillen) crack after two track days. I am currently waiting for non crossed drilled rotors to avoid this problem.

Anyhow I don't have a problem upgrading, I just wanted to see if anyone has had a problem with them on the track, I'm assuming they won't, regardless I am looking at the Stoptech set for the front and back.

If you are really going to drive the car at speed for multiple laps on a track, the best mod is to add brake cooling ducts. The best explanation of how to build these is in Carroll Smith's book "Prepare to Win". (start at p.79) Mr. Smith has written a series of books no hard core road racer is without, from nuts and bolts on up. Look at any serious race car and you will see the ducting. If you watch NASCAR, look at the difference in the front openings on the cars at Daytona to a shor track or road course.
