Depends on if you have a copy of your keys handy or not.

Say that you do:
1. Dealer will charge you around $240 for BOTH key and Remote and programming, and another $20 to cut the key.
2. You can always go the Ebay way and buy a key for around $12, or the flip keys for $50, go to your local locksmith and have them both cut and program the key for around $75 (Lowest price in Los Angeles area, you might get lucky).
In this case, the dealer usually has the keys in stock, and you'll get your keys rather quickly. Otherwise, wait for Ebay delivery, and instant gratification from your Locksmith.

If you DON'T have both sets of keys:
You'll have to change the tumbler/locking mechanism on the car itself to accommodate a new set of cut keys. Or there is some way for the dealer to find out key cut, but highly doubtful. In this case, there really is no safe choice EXCEPT to head directly to the dealer and pay whatever they want (Unless you have multiple dealerships around you, then you can play with quotes).
In this case, several weeks I would assume. Never had to deal with this myself.

Do you have the second key/remote that came with your car? If so you can
take it to your local dealership and get another....but costly.

Go on ebay and get you a used set and take it to a dealer to reprogram.

An automotive locksmith can cut and program a key in about an hour. I work at a large used car dealership and we get a lot of repos where there are NO keys. We just have them cut. There's a mobile automotive locksmith onsite who does it all the time. I'd see if I can find one of those.

The dealer would definitely be my last option.

G-Spot Why the he!l was your car keys in your pocket when your on the boat anyway? That's why you keep them locked up in your rack. And don't use "I had the rack lock keys with my car keys."

FYI,

For you premium 06+ plus folks with an intelligent key. I recently purchased this exact item:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-07...Q5fAccessories

And it was successfully cut and reprogrammed at the dealer for a half hour worth of labor ($50). Just thought I make those aware who are either looking for a back up set and don't feel like paying the ridiculous $250 dealership fee.

G35 infinity coupe
Lost keys

I plan on buying a 04 G35 coupe with clean title. The keys are lost so how will I go about replacing them? Am I able to order uncut keys and have them cut by a locksmith or would I need to replace the whole ignition/tumbler as well?
