Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

Since when is GM - Buick one of the most reliable cars out there??? I agree with Toyota #1, Nissan #3, but Honda should be #2, not Buick. And #4 is Ford - Lincoln, oh come on, I hope I'm reading this wrong.

Last paragraph it lists manufacturers above industry average, honda is #2 on that list and nissan doesn't make the cut... but BMW & GM do?

Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

I can't really disagree. My old 1997 pontiac grand prix has gone over 150,000 miles without any major mechanical work. I couldn't even say that about my honda accord. My sister has a taurus with over 100k that still runs like new. While american makers have a long way to go in terms of the inital quality (especially the interiors!!!), they have come a LONG way in terms of mechanical reliability. Just my one experience, but I do think that the idea of "american = crap" needs to go back to 1985 where it belongs.

Even so, you dont see me lurking on cadillac or lincoln forums now that I'm considering getting a new car! I believe that america can turn out reliable cars, now just make the reliable car that I want to drive!

Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

someone mentioned on FA that the info is for 2001. Apparently there is a lag time between survey's and their publication. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1

If this is the case, I suspect the 2005 survey will be well down because 2001 is right before they released the G and they should have been able to work the bugs out of all of the other models. It'll be interesting.

I had a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP gave it to my sister at 120k miles about 2 years ago and she's still driving it. Never had a single major problem.

J D Power & Associates reliability surveys aren't as accurate as Consumer Reports'. Their sample size is a fraction of what CR's is.

i personally think that JD power is not as accurate as consumer reports and it has a lot to do with marketing agreements and stuff...not worth judging too much by that stupid stats that they conducted

Pssh... my uncle's 96 BMW 740iL has 320,000 miles without much of mechanical problems... the engine is still running strong!
and my 3 series was crap...oh well.. kind of off topic.. but BMWs are pretty much known for unrealiable cars.

Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

That's a great observation. I've owned 2 Lincolns, a Crown Vic and a Buick. I will be picking up my 2004 Ivory Pearl G Coupe tomorrow, and it will be my first import car I've ever owned. I actually nearly got another Lincoln when the saleswoman pissed me off at the dealership, so I left angry and drove down the street. I saw the Infiniti sign, and turned in. I saw the car, fell in love and the rest was history!

My american rides have been extremely reliable. Think about it, most taxi cabs and airport limo's have been Lincolns, Crown Vics and Impalas... They must be reliable cars for large fleets that run 24 hours a day to sign on for...

Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

i will say that japanese car makers push the crap out of their engines. a i4 sti or evo viii that makes ~300 hps or ~300 torque? if you asked me what would last longer, that or a v8 pushing 300, id say the v8.

Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

heres my ranking 1:Toyota 2:GM 3:Honda 4:Nissan. GMs are actually very reliable. we'be had 3 of them and still own one. the two older ones went over 180k miles no major problems. we have 3 toyotas and they are very reliable. i have a 91 camry n still running fine. mi bros explorer sucks. if i were to have a last place ranking, it would be chrysler. chrysler=massive pos. but anyways g35 looks and feels great and im gonna get an 05 for Xmas.

Re: Infiniti ranked 3rd in reliability

i think thats what most people get wrong on reliability of a certain brand of cars. You cannot just say..."oh..i have a ford..and it runs well..so ford is reliable...and see..i have a toyota..and it broke down in 2 years"...well..i believe statistically its called an anecdote....NO SIGNIFICIANT WHATSOEVER...now..its a different case if your household has couple thousands different brands of cars with similar usage..then...it will say something..but who here can say that? i don't think alot of us....so..whatever your personally accounts are good for your own consideration only..because to be honest...even 2 toyota camry's coming out from the factory side by side....one could be a freak..and the other could be POS....just see if you are lucky or not....but of course...you can always cut the risk by buying a brand that is truthworthy...more likely than not..you will be satisfy with your purchase =)
