5AT triptronic DO's and Dont's?

So i have a 2004 5AT....and i usually always drive in trip-tronic....my ?s are is it safe to downshift when using trip tronic?...i usually DS when below 2500k RPM, with enough room that when it drops it doesnt fly back above 2500.....i usually DS when coming to a red light or to slow down without braking.....and NO im NOT ENGINE braking i do use the brakes lol....another ? i have is, Is it fine on the engine to shift at rev limiter lol iv perfected the art of shifting a millisecond b4 it hits revlimiter ;) lol so it kicks like a mother but its not overstraining engine....

thanks for all help.....Noob ?'s but iv been pondering over them 4awhile

why would you go to the revlimiter? your killing your engine!

Mercinator Apr 12, 2009 11:53 PM

or you can put it into Auto until you actually need tip...

u shoulda got a six speed

norcal2006g35 Apr 12, 2009 11:53 PM

bs no it doesnt i do it all the timeESP on the track!> !!! i down shift alot higher then that!!!! bro alot of guys get chips sooo they can go past the rev limiter,, im sure everyday hitting it is not good but if your trying to win FLOOR IT!!!

norcal2006g35 Apr 12, 2009 11:57 PM

i wish i could get a 6speed.!? but my GF wanted n auto to drive to sooo we had to comprimise

UR2EZ Apr 13, 2009 12:05 AM

*whipping sound*

EndlessWaltz112 Apr 13, 2009 12:06 AM

People need to use search

https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...atic-mode.html

Check the drivetrain section since your talking about drivetrain

norcal2006g35 Apr 13, 2009 01:32 AM

lol yuup she gets what she wants!!

Mercinator Apr 13, 2009 02:00 AM

tip isnt really ment for casual driving
imo its kinda like
why are you wasting your time driving a 5At
when u could just drive auto
sure if you wanna go to track and race then I guess Tip helps
but if u are talking about street racing
I say you should seriously consider just letting people go faster then you
and not take every challenge like I used to do

its a good way to avoid

A) Getting a suspended license

B) Jail

PS: sorry if I just sound like an angry guy
on 4 hours of sleep from my painted headlight mod:)

Edit: lol i just realized norcal2006g35 isnt op

dont trip bro. I got an auto cuz of my wife also. other guys dont have respect. I love my car.

I don't DS in my auto unless I want to hold a gear for the next corner. Other than that, I leave it alone as it only stresses the fluid.

killing my engine?...im not talkin like 7500 its limited at redline...ever used trip mode and not shifted how it bounces off of it ??? more likely ull Eff it up in a 6MT than 5AT

it doesnt bother me to shift in Trip all the time and full AT is boring , keep it below 2500 shifts and im saving gas as i would in auto mode

my main concern is what DS does to the car when done properly , like i said below 2500 and never into 1st gear .....so red light.....4, 3, 2, stop

codeflux Apr 13, 2009 02:55 AM

dude, you're fine. downshifting, rev-limiter, everything. i've had my rev limiter increased (technosquare L-spec reflash) and still no problems. ;)
