About 350Z Engine Covers
I want to get a Z engine cover. Do they only come in black?
I have seen many different colours (mostly silver, some red and orange ones matching their cars).
the question is, are all these custom painted? or is there another source for these coloured ones? I especially liket the silver one they have on the GReddy TT Z.
let me know asap please, cuz someone is offerring me a stock black one for $45 shipped!
thanks

Re: About 350Z Engine Covers
wow, that's a nice looking engine bay!
lighting is kinda bad in that picture but that looks like a black powdercoated v5?
you should look around the My350Z classifieds, they always have some oem or CF engine covers floating around.
does anybody want to tell me where they got their silver one?

Re: About 350Z Engine Covers
For most of us it is in search of a different look or ugraded performance. I think that is why most of us are lurking around these forums. Looking for ideas on how to do some of these mods or get ideas for our own version of how we would have done it if we were in charge.
I personally do not care for the carbon fiber look but to each there own on how they want to mod there car. Heck if I could afford it I would be spending a lot more on other upgrades to my G.
G35C - 6MT, DG/G, Aero, BSM, Flaps, Stillen Intake, Z tube, Crawford v5, 6 Wire Grounding Kit, Clear Corners, 2nd Battery (Brake) Cover, Sirius, Momo F16 Evo Shifter, 30% 3M Tint & more to go

Re: About 350Z Engine Covers
I started with a full 350z cover (used) and cut it to fit the Crawford v5. Look at esemes cover.
The used cover I picked up did not have the burger logo on it but if it did I was going to remove it.
I then used a 2 part clay epoxy to back fill the "3.5" and "V6". I also used the same clay epoxy to fill in where the burger logo was.
Now this is where is takes some time. . . Start sanding and filing and grinding and wet sanding smooth the cover to get rid of the letters and where you filled in the logo. This is going to take the longest part. I took my time over a week, borrowing a few sanders from work.
After it is the shape and smoothness you want clean it up and prime it. I used a plastic primer from Home Depot. I wet sanded between coats to get really smooth.
Then the color(s) are up to you. I masked and added a similar color as the plenum that I accented with the matching compartment covers. (Same process as above to get rid of "battery", "+" and "-")
I finished with some clear and bought a new rear trunk logo. I heated the logo to re-shape it to the curves of the cover vs. the trunk and stuck it on and let it sit for 2 days under a heavy binder.
It has held up perfectly since Feb. Just wax it to help protect it from normal wear or for when you or someone else changes the oil.
I hope that helps get you going.
Good Luck,
Terry
