5AT Shifter Limp!

Long story short, my car got stolen, recovered and the dealership had to replace the center console.

First it woulnd't shift into manual mode, but everything else works great from Park to Drive.

NOW, it's still fine between PRN, but once it's in D, it just falls over into manual mode. There's no resistance left to right at all. AND once in manual mode, there's no resistance between + or -. It still functions and shifts properly in either mode, but it sucks to be on the freeway and have the shifter fall over into manual and drop to 4th all on it's own.

Anyone have an '03 Center Console diagram so I can see if it's just some sort of broken or missing clip inside or what?

Anyone else ever have this problem? (i searched, but found nothing)

Thanks in advance for an help! This forum has always been a plethora of information.

I found the service manual though, so I'm gonna remove the console finisher and see if it's an easy fix. Otherwise I'm SOL.

I'm curious... what was the general extend of the overall damage to your car after it was recovered from being stolen?

Personally... I'd be really REALLY pissed if someone stole my car and didn't total it. With the way I take care of my car and generally baby it... just knowing that some other douchebag stole it and beat the snot out of it would totally kill it for me. I would have to sell it and buy something else.

Would the title still be clean if it was stolen?

Yeah, the title's clean in CA after a theft recovery.

Smashed up console
Smashed up rack and pinion
Smashed up rear bumper cover
Missing DVD Changer
Missing A/V Switcher & TV Tuner
Broken Navi Screen & Brain
Missing Battery

Most of the damage was caused by the tow company or the lot where it was kept for 30 days after recovery (found in Tijuana, MX).

All in all with rental cars for the 4 months it was gone and the return tow from Mexico it was over $11,000. They should have just totalled it.

But at least it's back and pretty much 100% except for the aformentioned problem.

call your insurance tell them what's wrong with the car and that the previous mechanics didn't fix it properly and then tell them you want to take it to the dealer and have it fixed. Many times they will pay for it or make you pay your deductable again.

It's all good. Thanks for the suggestions, but I fixed it last night. I found out it takes about 2 hours to remove the console, and the shifter assembly. Unhook it from the transmission and re-install some stupid check-ball that runs along a track. All better now.

Why not take it to a local Infiniti dealer near you? Worst comes to worst call Infiniti customer care and they can help out. But Infiniti in general should help you.

Mostly because I don't trust any of the dealerships I've been to. The guys that did all the repair work are super shady. But also because I wanted to do it. I'm that guy who takes stuff apart just for fun. I've always done all the work on my car except for fluids because I don't want to deal with disposal.

You're in SoCal, where's a good dealership?

Wow with all that and they didn't total it? How did they steal it anyways?
