G35 coupe v. Audi A8L

Okay, okay, I know these cars are totally different . . .

But here is my dilemma. I live in NJ, and used to have an SUV when I bought my G coupe. Last December, my SUV went bye-bye (stupid old guy who ran a stop sign). I suffered last winter with the G.

Also, as per my other posts, I hate the road noise in the coupe. I think for an extra few hundred dollars, Infiniti should have put more sound deadening in the car.

Otherwise, I love the G35 coupe. It's fast, pretty comfortable, looks amazing, handles impeccably. Probably the best all around performance car I've owned (I used to have a Corrado SLC and Benz CLK430).

The A8 is an amazing car. Quattro, good looks, German engineering, air suspension, and V8 power. The cons are that it's huge, and well obviously, a sedan and not a sexy coupe.

So there it is. With winter coming and good deals (relative term of course) on A8s, I'm considering it. (Doesn't help that the wife is always complaining that that she hates the G b/c it's too loud).

What do you guys think?

Either put new more quiet tires on the G, the Pilots are very loud, or go and get a CLK 500. Why did you get rid of the 430?

Wouldn't you guys agree that any high performance tire I put on the G would be just as loud as the pilots. I used to have pilots on my CLK, and it was never as loud as it is with my G. I think the G has horrible sound insulation. Unfortunately, I had to give the CLK back on a lease. The new CLK 500 is way too feminine.

No matter, I love the G. I really do, but they totally missed the mark with the lack of luxury amenities and sound insulation.

So back to Audi, the S4 is cool, but no navigation on a 55K car. Give me a break. Same with RS6, but that's 80K large.

The A8 seems like a great car, but just not for me . . .

dilemmas . . .

The S4 is awesome, but talk about a hard ride... If you think the G is rough the S4 may as well have wheels and suspension made by Fred Flinstone. It corners like a dream though.

Have you thought about the Volvo S60 R? It's a nice ride and has got some power to it (got smoked by one the other night). I haven't driven a new A8, only a few A6s (very nice also btw).

You got smoked by the S60R? Do they make that in a AWD version? Shouldn't have happened my man. Details please?

Well, it was a few days ago, it had just rained and the roads were a bit wet. To make a long story short I spun my tires a little too much because I wasn't taking him serious (I hadn't realized that it was a S60 R until the end of the run). So we ran up to about 80 mph and he had about a length and a half on me. Don't take that car for granted. It's fast. I think that MT and C&D had it 0-60 in like 5.3.

Edit: It does come in AWD and car and driver reported 5.5 0-60 and a 14 sec quarter.

Re: G35 coupe v. Audi A8L

i was looking at a new 3.0 a4 quattro or a used s4 2002 when i bought my G. i didnt test drive either but was considering them. Audi's are really nice cars.... i hopped in a few a8's when my friend was trying to trade his 330ci for a used A4.... they are NICE as hell. Get nav if u get one... cause the nav on those things is so playa. I wouldnt mind driving an A8.. i would put it on 20's tho and roll around with a pimp cain and hat yelling profane things at ladies as i rolled down the street with dice in the mirror and gold fronts in my mouth. that thing would be so gansta/drug dealer and awsome for a 17 year old kid..... Im sure ur older than me tho and will fit in it as a luxury automobile better than i would

2004 Black on Black g coupe 6spd.... aluminum pedals, clear corners, z tube, and pop charger. soon to have 19" volk gt-c's and PIAA xtreme whites in the clearance and corners

if uve got the money, do it. the interior is ..... cant explain it with words. but yea....world of a difference in car comparison. heh. s60r's are having suspension and brake problems. and yea those are very fast. watch out for those. id say get a S4. or if u want a wagon, s6 =D. watch out for audi's tho.....i maintain mine regularly. helps to know what your doing/a mechanic as a friend who is familiar with ure car.

Re: G35 coupe v. Audi A8L

I finally drove the A8L yesterday. Nice car. Very nice, but not perfect. The car doesn't have strong torque off the line. Great midrange, but a little weak off the line. 4.2 L 8 is the problem. Compare that to Benz's 5.0 L V8 which rocks even if the horsepower rating is lower.

Next the steering was numb on center, and you could definitely tell that you were driving a car that had some power going to the front wheels. Not bad, but weird especially after you drive a rear drive sports car.

Notwithstanding, the coolest thing about the A8 is that it handles incredibly and feels like a much much smaller car. I was shocked how tossable this car felt. If you drive it, you won't believe how it handles for such a big car.

In the end, I think I'm sticking with the G. It's just too much fun, and more in line with what I like to drive.

Now what about those snow tires . . .

Why not just go the inexpensive route and go to a car audio shop and have them install sound deadening material??

The G35 does have a bit more road noise than I would prefer, I think some Dynomat would solve that pretty easily. Once you do that I think switching to softer tires (I'm going with Nitto 555 Extreme, excellent performance and value) will have a bigger effect.

That is my plan...
