Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
i get about 300 miles to the tank... never have before cause i fill up at about 250 miles.. but i just take how much i fill up with and divide my miles by that everytime to figure out my MPG and it usually is aorund 15. i fill up at about 5-6 gallons left usually. The best i ever got was the tank after my popcharger/ztube install... i got 18.5 mpg so i guess that would be 370... if i drove till empty. I have a heavy right foot

Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
I know I can get 26.6 miles to the U.S. gallon on the highway (Coupe) at steady posted speed (62 mph). I also know I can pump in 75 liters which converts to 20 gallons U.S.- so by the numbers I could go 532 miles on a tank.
I've only done this once, and will not likely will atempt it again. It's just nice to know what is possible.
I usually fill at about 1/4 tank (indicated) after travelling about 250-275 miles of combined city/hwy driving. My city/hwy driving only gets me about 20 mpg's.
Caution: my gas gauge is very optimistic as is my Navi gas gauge, consequently I can travel a long while after the low fuel light comes on and the Navi warning screan lights up.
Your gas gauge and Navi may be totally different. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img]
BTW- the G-Sedan I had previously would get me about 2 mpg's more than the Coupe.

Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
I've gotten about 450 MPT (miles per tank) many times in my G coupe. I do mostly highway driving, and only leadfoot it occasionally, so I get about 25 MPG average (according to the nav, which is reportedly a tad optimistic). I often run it down to where I can put 18- 18.5 gallons in it (out of 20) to fill up. The math says 18x25= 450, so there we are...
Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
I usually run my cars as low as possible before filling up. Any miniscule debris in the tank should then be trapped by the fuel filter which is changed according to the maintenance schedule.
If you fill up at 1/4 tank everytime, this allows the debris from each fillup to build up over time. Then, the one day you do run it dry, you will suck up alot of debris, possibly clogging your fuel line.

Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
its good to wait tillits pretty empty to pump because that way you wont be mixing different brands of gas. you'll have a new fresh tank everytime
Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
Why do you think different brands of gasoline are different in the same city? 95% of gasoline in each city is fungible. [the same spec]
True a few of the name brands add a drop or two of secret special marketing sauce and maybe some dye to each tanker truck as it leaves the tank farm but they all buy their gasoline from the refineries that feed the storage farms in your town.
Few Fuel marketeers [40 out 146] own their own refineries any longer. They mix and match depending on where you live.
The closest refinery is what's important as the pipelines charge per mile to deliver.
It can cost 30 cents per gallon to truck gasoline vs 4-5 cents by barge vs 1.5-2.5 cents via pipeline.
Colonial [pipelines] delivers 90 different products for 85 customers to 270 terminals and more than 1,000 storage tanks.
Other than regular and premium grades, the bulk of the differences are for different localities [EPA emission regulations].

I always got better gas milege at Exxon or Diamond Shamrock. When I tried Shell it was a little lower, when I tried Chevron, it was much lower.

thats why i have 10, 5gal jugs that I fill gas with. All collected from drag racing my grand national and road racing bikes, I would take my jugs to the gas station. like I wrote in my previous post, I filter my gas so that i get the cleanest possible fuel. the reason why i have so much fuel jugs was that i mixed my own race gas when I had my grand national, and to mix my gas with two stroke oil in my RS250 GP bike. I've already done it to the my G35. Honestly, I cant tell the difference. But for those of you have other cars that are forced inducted..you should try this. Grand National/T-Type owners are renowned for this, The Supra guys are getting into it...and so on:
mix 1gal xylene to 4gal premium grade gasoline, for every 1gal of xylene you pour in 1oz of Marvel Mystery Oil. It's not quite like race gas, but pretty similar in terms of Octane Rating, being it converts to 99.5 R+M/2 Octane Rating. Xylene is a paint thinner, but if any of you have ever used Octane boosters...read the active ingredients, they're all xylene.
In my Grand National, I could immediate tell the difference. I could run my race trim 100 octane chip and set boost to 20psi and get no knock down the drag strip. bumped it up to 24 psi, and finally got knock and brought boost back down to 20psi and fuel pressure in relative formula. It's no way a replacement for race gas. on race gas, i'd get no knock while on 24psi. but it's a cheaper alternative to buying 100 octane. you guys can read all about it on gnttype.org and TurboBuick.com.

Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
Nice thought, but I would never put oil in your fuel. The injectors on the VQ are so sensitive this could be just enough to damage them.

Re: Got 400 miles to the Tank !!
This would be true if the fuel suction floated with the tank level.
THE SUCTION IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK. HOW DO YOU EXPECT ANYTHING TO BUILD UP?????
It's always sucking from the bottom no matter what the fuel level is. The main problem, as Q45 pointed out, is that it strains the fuel pump.

G Spot,
Unfortunately we get screwed in NY b/c of the damn ethanol they put in the gas. Before that it, it was oxygenated. That crap kills gas mileage!!! The best I got was a lil over 300 on round trip to Atlantic City n back. The way down was raining a bit so I never went over 70 and the way back I hit minor traffic but probably averaged 50mph which is about optimal!
