Looking at used G35s. What to look out for?

Hey I am new to the forums here but have been a G35 fan for quite some time.

I will be looking at MT coupes pretty soon but I have read about a factory clutch fetching a near-3 grand price tag on a transmission under 30k. I am not a mechanic so I thought I would ask:

What should I listen for or notice about a 2007 G with 25k miles on it?

I would likely replace the stock with performance if I am going to be pitched $2700, but I don't necessarily want to drive this car off the lot and into the shop.

There were other transmission parts mentioned in one of the threads...the slave cylinder. Are there any signs I would be able to identify off a test drive?

If you have any advice it will be appreciated.

Buying a used G35 you need to buy the newest model you can afford with the lowest mileage, and always get a CARFAX. Don't concern yourself with clutch issues, if you know how to use a clutch correctly you'll do fine! What you've read about clutches costing $3K is probably from the Stealership, anyone with half a brain won't let Infiniti replace their clutch....

Thanks for the advice, Gary!

I am confident in my ability driving a MT, but my doubts lie in the previous owner. That's why I was asking if there are tell-tale signs of abuse or indications that it will soon need work.

MTs are so hard to find! I got excited about this one but I must reserve myself and make a good decision.

As long as the car has low mileage you should be ok. Good luck in your search. On 06-07 watch out for the oil consumption. When buying from a dealing ask if they tested for the oil consumption problem. It is a known problem for the rev up motors.

oil consumption

I read up about the oil consumption issue, but how am I supposed to tell simply by inspection?
