fixing carbon fiber hood

i have the invader 3 carbon fiber hood but it is damaged. it is cracked a lil bit on the vents.. i am trrying to paint it black but the body shop i took it to said if they paint it the cracks and scratches will show.. and they coudlnt do anything about it because its carbon fiber.. does this shop not know what there talking about or is there nothing you can do about carbon fiber. i am also trying to fill in the middle vent so it looks like the chargespeed hood.. i dont like the middle vent it makes it look too aggressive.. is there anything body shops can do or is just this body shop suck?? let me knoww if anyone has done such things.. thanks

Yes it can be fixed, but you need to go to a good body shop. Most body shops are just collision centers, not a custom shop that knows about cf.

What I do when dealing with cf is sand the hood down and clear it. Then let it dry and see whats still there. Because if you just put paint on top of a crack, then it will just look like "cracked paint" You should be able to get rid of most of that when sanding it down and then clear it. Then start your paint work on the "new hood"

i am in the same condition. i was in the freeway one night and rock chipped my cf hood. i took it to a couple of places and they said that it is hard fixing a the clear coats specially on the edges, that they wouldnt be much they can do since clear coat is way different than paint, & that it will show unless i do the whole clear coat to make it look even. but some people my have different experiences. if anyone does and fixed their let me know cuz i hate seeing my hood chipped
