Which gear do you use to come to a stop

I was wondering which gear do you all use to come to a stop? I was taught to shift to 3rd (20 mph) and then press the clutch and put it on neutral. The G seems to be able to go to 25 miles on 4th and I can just shift to neutral at that time thus avoiding clutch wear but maybe increasing brake wear. I am talking about stopping on a even road.
What do you guys think?

I usually down shift to 2nd, and then put it into nuetral. I try to keep the car engaged for as long as possible so when you come to a stop light, you can move right away if it turns green. If it is a stop sign, it's 2nd into nuetral.

I pop it out of 6th into neutral all the time. Should I not be doing that?

I stay in whichever gear I was in, until engine rev drops below 1500rpm, then I put it in neutral. What's the advantage of putting it in second before neutral?

I think if you drive a Caribbean Blue 6MT, then you just shift to neutral.

I always go to neutral from any gear and get to a stop. I don't think it's harmful. I don't engine break cuz I rather cut the life of the brakes than the engine.

I agree. For ordinary driving I coast down as long as possible, leaving the tranny in whatever gear it's in until 1500 RPMs or so, then put the clutch in and brake to a stop. Letting engine braking do the work initially saves brake wear, and not downshifting saves clutch/synchro wear. I've done this with every car I've ever owned and I've always enjoyed exceptionally long clutch and brake life.

For more sporty driving though, I'll have all the blip-throttle/rev matching fun I can stand...

Word!!11one. As I remember, transmission parts cost more than break pads.

exactly, Id much rather shell out the cash for some new pads than go through the hassel of replacing the clutch.

Depends on how long I can decelerate, but im usually in 3rd when approaching a
stop. The reason for me in a lower gear is so that I can still accelerate if I
need to during an emergency manuver....plus, if you know how to drive MT
you're not putting much extra wear on your tranny.

Why shift to a stop???

Unless you REALLY need to stop....the brakes are for stopping the car, not the tranny (See Drive to Win by Carrol Smith...quite illuminating).
