I have a black coupe with graphite interior. Since it's getting warmer out I wanted to tint my windows. I thought that I would have the sides and back done at 20% and the front windshield at 35%. I've never had my windows tinted so I was wondering if it was a bad idea to tint the front windshield.
Also, I heard that llumar was the best bang for the buck. Anyone know of any good tint shops in NC? Thanks.

 

Lumar is a great film. I got the next step up, Infinity Film. It's at 20% all the way around. I wouldn't tint the front if I were you since that is you main field of vision. It's also illegal in every state I know of. Would be cool not to have to wear sunglasses though, huh? Here's a pic of mine, got it done a week ago. Peace.

For emphasis: it's illegal to tint the front windshield in pretty much every US state. Not sure about Canada. I'm not sure if it was on this board, but there's a link out there that lists the tinting limits of every state. Naturally, I looked up my own (Mass. - 35% side and back) and promptly forgot everything else.

It is legal to tint your front windshield, but usually only the top 5" or so. I think it looks good too, as well as being functional for not having to ever put down your sun visors. You can tind this dark too...drop limo tint on it. I think every state varies on the number of inches you can come down though. I know Ohio is 5". Below is a link to the various state laws for window tint. They may be outdated though. One other thing. DO NOT TRUST YOUR LOCAL COPS. They will feed you BS about what your local laws are...unless they're a friend of course. Usually they don't know or make up some dumb number to discourage you.

It's illegal in to tint the windshield in Canada too.

 

I tinted the windshield of my Acura CL with 50% film. I've never had a problem with the cops or with visability. I think the tint gives the car a much more sleek look and definately helps with the sun especially in the summer months.

I've tinted (very light) my windshield on both my old accords (the thinking was additional UV protection for my dash)...and I think the only way I got away with it was because the sides and back windows were a very light tint as well...if your back and sides are a medium or darker tint...don't touch the front...it'll be way too dark and way too obvious. I've gone with a dark tint on my back and sides on my G, so it would be way too obvious...that plus the black interior would just make it way too dark. And as far as getting the windshield done at a tint place...just pay them cash to do it for you, and they won't give you a receipt so they're not liable.

 

You've never had a problem with cops because you haven't been stopped by an a$$hole cop yet. (which there is an abundance of here in Toronto)

What you're saying is like "I drive at double the speed limit, I've never had a problem with cops" =)
Just cuz you haven't been caught doesn't mean its legal.

Its up to ucng35c if he/she wants to take the chance of spending money on a front windshield tint or not cause a cop can give you a ticket and make you take it off.

 

That's funny, when california highway patrol popped me for the tint on my old car. They said no tint period on the front windows and absolutely no tint on the windsheild anywhere. The whole stupid law is lame. GRRR.

It might be illegal to tint the front windsheild but i did it any way, and it looks sick.... I also did 20% all around, the front windsheild is tinted 35% and you can see out of it fine, even at night its perfectly fine, you cant see in for [censored] tho, it looks like a show car.... im lovin it, never had any problems with tickets yet......and no offence RedRok8 your tints are nice, but I also have 20% but mine do look alot darker.....

Thanks for all of the input guys. I guess the thing is that I'll be moving to NY this summer to start a job and from what I read on one of the links above, any kind of tinting is illegal there. I'm definitely going to go ahead and do the sides and the back at 20% despite the fact, so the only concern is for safety with regard to the front windshield. Thanks DaGS1800 for your post. I wish that I could sit in your car in person and see what it looks like.
