Put your car on a lift and you'll see a few along your exhaust

Thread is kind of old, but I heard a similar noise today. I can ONLY hear it when I'm driving in an enclosed space, like a parking garage or a narrow corridor. The sound is pretty horrible, only in first gear while accelerating, almost sounds like metal on metal. I just got the oil changed 800 miles ago so it better not be gone yet.

mine rattles pretty loud when accelerating from 1000 to 5000 rpm, mainly in gears 2-5. the rattle does not happen all the time but some days it rattles everytime i hit the gas. its very noticable and sounds like its coming from right under the dash...it only happens under acceleration. "coasting" at high rpm i cant hear the rattle until i press the gas. let off gas and rattle is gone. i do not have heat shields so that is not the problem...oil is fine also.
Do any of you guys with rattles have automatics?? i have a manual and i was thinking it may be a clutch/flywheel problem...

i also have this issue, it seems to happen when i accelerate from low rpms when i'm in a gear that's higher than ideal, like driving 20 some miles an hour in 3rd gear. it just rattles real low and loud until the rpms get to about 3-4K and then it goes away. if i shift down into 2nd year, it will also go away.

i have a 2006 6mt with 52K miles on it, not sure why it does this.

I have that same exhaust-type rattle when accelerating hard in lower gears, and also get a pretty similar rattle when dropping revs between like 2200-1800 rpm. Anyone else had that? That 2nd one I can reproduce standing still in neutral, so it's not the tranny or any moving parts. It all started happening after I replaced the cats, so it could either be the cats (hope not... Berk HFCs, anyone had problems?) or some other exhuast/heatshield problem. Now that it's getting to be windows down driving season again I need to get this thing fixed before it drives me insane. The exhaust sound is so perfect I hate to ruin the experience with this crap.

HAHA @ VETEC KICKING IN.LOL

also my car shakes on first gear, its not quite the same as the result from bad foot work. i know it's not because i don't know how to drive manual.
my friend told me it could be a bad clutch or flywheel.

does anyone else have the same problem???

Hopefully it's not the crankshaft jumping around because of bad bearings.

If you have a coupe, there is a triangular shaped piece of metal that runs along the muffler to make it a more aerodynamic shape... the bolts on that tends to loosen and it'll start rattling when you're driving. You can either tighten those bolts or take it off.

my rattling sound comes specifically from the driver side, a little behind the driver seat specifically. I can only hear it when I am making left turns at low speeds. is this the sound you're getting? and is this common to anyone else on here?

^ That was a comment in general about a possible source of rattling when a coupe owner steps on the gas.
